Liquid-Crystalline Phases of Colloidal Dispersions of Layered Double Hydroxides

Colloidal dispersions of Mg/Al LDH platelets show liquid-crystal phase at a certain particle concentration. Threaded texture observed with polarized microscopy indicated it was typical of a nematic phase, which can often be found in traditional liquid crystals.
