Rashba type spin-orbit splitting of quantum well states in ultrathin Pb films

Hugo Dil、Fabian Meier、Jorge Lobo-Checa 等 6 位作者2008-09-30arXiv

A Rashba type spin-orbit splitting is found for quantum well states formed in ultrathin Pb films on Si(111). The resulting momentum splitting is comparable to what is found for semiconductor heterostructures. The splitting shows no coverage dependency and the sign of the spin polarization is reversed compared to Rashb…

Kh. Khazen、H. J. von Bardeleben、M. Cubukcu 等 9 位作者2008-09-30arXiv

The magnetic properties of annealed, epitaxial Ga0.93Mn0.07As layers under tensile and compressive stress have been investigated by X-band (9GHz) and Q-band (35GHz) ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectroscopy. From the analysis of the linewidths of the uniform mode spectra the FMR Gilbert damping factor "alpha" has bee…

Experimental Investigation on the Seismic Behavior of Beam-Column Joints Reinforced with Superelastic Shape Memory Alloys

Maged A. Youssef、M. Shahria Alam、Moncef L. Nehdi2008-09-30Journal of Earthquake Engineering

Superelastic Shape Memory Alloys (SE SMAs) are unique alloys that have the ability to undergo large deformations and return to their undeformed shape by removal of stresses. This study aims at assessing the seismic behavior of beam-column joints reinforced with SE SMAs. Two large-scale beam-column joints were tested u…

Hugo Romero、Ning Shen、Prasoon Joshi 等 7 位作者2008-09-30ACS Nano

Results are presented from an experimental and theoretical study of the electronic properties of back-gated graphene field effect transistors (FETs) on Si/SiO(2) substrates. The excess charge on the graphene was observed by sweeping the gate voltage to determine the charge neutrality point in the graphene. Devices exp…

Optical properties of graphene and IV–VI semiconductors

L. A. Falkovsky2008-09-30Physics-Uspekhi

The frequency dispersion of the dynamic conductivity of graphene, of a multilayer graphene, and of IV–VI semiconductors is considered as a function of the temperature and carrier density in the range of frequencies that are higher than the carrier relaxation rate but are lower than the conduction band width. A narrow…

Anion‐Responsive Supramolecular Gels

Hiromitsu Maeda2008-09-30OpenAlex

Supramolecular gels that change their state or structure in response to anion stimuli have been highlighted. Only a few examples exist of such supramolecular gels, the structures and properties of which can be controlled and modulated by interactions with anions. To form anion-responsive dimensionally-controlled organ…

Collective Resonances in Gold Nanoparticle Arrays

Baptiste Auguié、William L. Barnes2008-09-30OpenAlex

We present experimental evidence of sharp spectral features in the optical response of 2D arrays of gold nanorods. A simple coupled dipole model is used to describe the main features of the observed spectral line shape. The resonance involves an interplay between the excitation of plasmons localized on the particles a…
