Chemical structure modeling with kernel methods

Hiroshi Yamashita2014-09-29OpenAlex

Small molecules that have the ability to alter the biological response of a cell or disease state are of significant interest as drug candidates. One approach to the design of such molecules using kernel methods is through a map of molecules to a feature space induced by a kernel, where the predictions of the molecula…

Assessment of Circumferential SCC on an Ethane Pipeline

Yannick Beauregard、C H Edwards2014-09-29OpenAlex

This paper describes the analysis conducted on circumferential SCC found on a high vapour pressure ethane pipeline. The damaged section of pipe was located near a road crossing and was cut out before failure. A total of 146 cracks were identified with lengths ranging from a 1 mm to 50 mm. Three different techniques we…

Simultaneous Presence of Two Different Magnetic Structures in a Single-Crystalline Solid? Hydrogen-Distribution-Dependent Magnetism

Hyun‐Joo Koo、Myung‐Hwan Whangbo2014-09-29Inorganic Chemistry

In terms of density functional theory calculations, we explored the reason why the neutron diffraction patterns of a crystalline solid, NaFe2(H3O2)(MoO4)2, are explained by invoking the simultaneous presence of two widely different magnetic structures. The partitioning into OH and H2O groups of the "H3O2" units, which…

Small-Scale Testing to Characterize ERW Seam Properties in Response to NTSB Recommendation P-09-1, Arising From the Carmichael, MS Rupture

Gregory T. Quickel、John A. Beavers、John Kiefner 等 4 位作者2014-09-29OpenAlex

On November 1, 2007, a liquid propane pipeline ruptured near Carmichael, Mississippi. Several pipeline industry experts collaboratively concluded the likely origin of the failure was a defect in the longitudinal electric resistance welded (ERW) seam.[1] These experts also noted that a seam-integrity assessment did not…

Aharonov-Bohm effect in clean strong topological insulator wires

Eugene B. Kolomeisky、Joseph P. Straley2014-09-29arXiv (Cornell University)

Surface electrons of strong topological insulator wires acquire a Berry phase difference of $π$ on orbiting the wire. This can be detected in response of clean wires (whose Fermi level is tuned to the Dirac point) to the presence of the Aharonov-Bohm flux. Specifically, at half-odd integer applied flux (in units of $h…
