Synthesis of Porous Platinum Nanoballs in Soft Templates

Geetarani Surendran、Laurence Ramos、Brigitte Pansu 等 7 位作者2007-09-20Chemistry of Materials

Slow reduction of platinum salt in soft template made by direct hexagonal mesophases leads to Pt nanoballs with hexagonal cells formed by connected nanowires. The mesophases can be doped by high concentrations of platinum (up to 0.2 M) which leads to relatively large quantities of Pt nanostructures.

Orientation variation of surface strain

Ross Harder、M. A. Pfeifer、Garth J. Williams 等 5 位作者2007-09-20Physical Review B

Expansion of the surface layers of a facetted hemispherical nanocrystal of Pb is reported at a temperature just below the melting point. Inversion of the coherent x-ray diffraction pattern yields quantitative three-dimensional maps of the deformation of the crystal from its equilibrium lattice spacing. Most of the sur…

Synthesis and Aggregation Properties of Water‐Soluble Newkome‐Dendronized Perylenetetracarboxdiimides

Cordula D. Schmidt、Christoph Böttcher、Andreas Hirsch2007-09-20European Journal of Organic Chemistry

Abstract The synthesis and characterization of three highly water‐soluble perylenetetracarboxdiimide (“perylene bisimide”, PBI) dyes 1 and 2b is presented. The water solubility is provided by peripheral dendronization with 1G‐ and 2G‐Newkome dendrons. The aggregation behaviour of these amphiphiles in water and that of…

Surface Composition and Electrical and Electrochemical Properties of Freshly Deposited and Acid-Etched Indium Tin Oxide Electrodes

Michael T. Brumbach、P. Alex Veneman、F. Saneeha Marrikar 等 8 位作者2007-09-20Langmuir

We compare the near-surface composition and electroactivity of commercial indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films, activated by plasma cleaning or etching with strong haloacids, with ITO films that have been freshly deposited in high vacuum, before and after exposure to the atmosphere or water vapor. Conductive-tip AFM, X-r…

Helicity Induction and Amplification in an Oligo(p‐phenylenevinylene) Assembly through Hydrogen‐Bonded Chiral Acids

Subi J. George、Željko Tomović、Maarten M. J. Smulders 等 7 位作者2007-09-20Angewandte Chemie International Edition

Regulating the twist: Tunable supramolecular chirality is induced in an achiral helical self-assembly (P, M; see picture) by hydrogen-bonded chiral guest molecules (yellow and purple rods). Chiroptical probing of the π-conjugated chromophore reveals the mechanistic pathways of chiral induction. “Majority rules” and “s…

Roughness corrections to the Casimir force: The importance of local surface slope

P. J. van Zwol、G. Palasantzas、J. Th. M. De Hosson2007-09-20arXiv

This paper concentrates on a study where finite conductivity corrections are included in the theoretical description of the effects of roughness on the Casimir force. The roughness data were taken from gold films evaporated onto Silicon and polysterene spheres. We conclude that for a detailed comparison with experimen…

Numerical calculation of the combinatorial entropy of partially ordered ice

Bernd A. Berg、Wei Yang2007-09-20arXiv

Using a one-parameter case as an example, we demonstrate that multicanonical simulations allow for accurate estimates of the residual combinatorial entropy of partially ordered ice. For the considered case corrections to an (approximate) analytical formula are found to be small, never exceeding 0.5%. The method allows…

Patterned Biofunctional Poly(acrylic acid) Brushes on Silicon Surfaces

Rong Dong、Sitaraman Krishnan、Barbara Baird 等 5 位作者2007-09-20Biomacromolecules

Protein patterning was carried out using a simple procedure based on photolithography wherein the protein was not subjected to UV irradiation and high temperatures or contacted with denaturing solvents or strongly acidic or basic solutions. Self-assembled monolayers of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) on silicon surfaces w…

Understanding Segmental Dynamics in Polymer Electrolytes: A Computer Study

Arijit Maitra、Andreas Heuer2007-09-20Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics

Abstract We study the segmental dynamics of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) from microscopic simulations in the neat polymer and a polymer electrolyte (PEO/LiBF 4 ) by analyzing the normal modes. We verify the applicability of the Rouse theory, specifically for the polymer electrolyte where dynamic heterogeneities, arising…

Calculation of DOS-Dependent Channel Potentials in FETs in the Saturation Condition

Woo-young So、David V. Lang、Arthur P. Ramirez2007-09-20arXiv

We calculated functions for the potential, Vch, in the channel of a field effect transistor with various densities of the localized states (DOS) by using a device simulator. In the saturation condition, Vch is found to fit satisfactorily to the analytical function, Vch(y)=Vg(1-(1-y/L) k), where Vg is the gate bias, y…

Catalyzed Dehydrogenation of Ammonia–Borane by Iridium Dihydrogen Pincer Complex Differs from Ethane Dehydrogenation

Ankan Paul、Charles B. Musgrave2007-09-20Angewandte Chemie International Edition

Not a bit like his brother: DFT studies show that ammonia–borane dehydrogenations by iridium pincer complexes occur by concerted hydride and proton transfer from ammonia–borane to the catalyst, not through BH activation and subsequent β-hydride elimination from the nitrogen end, as had been suggested. Such a concerte…

Direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide from H 2 and O 2 using supported Au–Pd catalysts

The direct synthesis of H2O2 at low temperature (2 degrees C) from H2 and O2 using carbon-supported Au, Pd and Au-Pd catalysts is described and contrasted with data for TiO2, Al2O3 and Fe2O3 as supports. The Au-Pd catalysts all perform significantly better than the pure Pd/TiO2 and Au/ TiO2 materials. The Au Pd/carbon…
