Mini-Contact Enhanced Thermoelectric Coolers for On-Chip Hot Spot Cooling

Peng Wang、Yang Bao、Avram Bar‐Cohen2009-03-04Heat Transfer Engineering

Shrinking feature size and increasing transistor density, combined with the high performance demanded from next-generation microprocessors, have led to on-chip high heat flux “hot spots,” which have emerged as the primary driver for thermal management of today's integrated circuit (IC) technology. This article describ…

Size-dependent elasticity of nanocrystalline titania

Bin Chen、Hengzhong Zhang、Katherine Dunphy-Guzman 等 11 位作者2009-03-04Physical Review B

Synchrotron-based high-pressure x-ray diffraction measurements indicate that compressibility, a fundamental materials property, can have a size-specific minimum value. The bulk modulus of nanocrystalline titania has a maximum at particle size of 15 nm. This can be explained by dislocation behavior because very high di…

We present a thermodynamic study of the phase diagram of single-crystal ${\text{Ba}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\text{K}}_{x}{\text{Fe}}_{2}{\text{As}}_{2}$ using specific-heat measurements. In zero-magnetic field a clear step in the heat capacity of $\ensuremath{\Delta}C/{T}_{c}=0.1\text{ }\text{J}/\text{mol}\text{ }{\text{K…

Theory and computer simulation for the cubatic phase of cut spheres

Peter D. Duncan、Matthew Dennison、Andrew J. Masters 等 4 位作者2009-03-04Physical Review E

The phase behavior of a system of hard-cut spheres has been studied using a high-order virial theory and by Monte Carlo simulation. The cut-sphere particles are disks of thickness L formed by symmetrically truncating the end caps of a sphere of diameter D . The virial theory predicts a stable nematic phase for aspect…

Comparison of Covalently and Noncovalently Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes in Epoxy

Lei Liu、Krishna C. Etika、Kang‐Shyang Liao 等 6 位作者2009-03-04Macromolecular Rapid Communications

Carbon nanotubes typically require the use of a dispersing or stabilizing agent to prevent significant aggregation during incorporation into a polymer matrix. These additives must be strongly associated, either covalently or physically, to achieve their purpose. In this study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) wer…

XPS topofactors: determining overlayer thickness on particles and fibres

Alexander G. Shard、Jiaxuan Wang、Steven J. Spencer2009-03-04Surface and Interface Analysis

Abstract We introduce the concept of an XPS ‘Topofactor’, which can be used in conjunction with the XPS ‘Thickogram’, to provide overlayer thicknesses on topographic samples of known geometry. The concept is essentially simple; analysis is performed with the sample normal directed towards the XPS analyser, the equival…

Tamer Uyar、Yusuf Nur、Jale Hacaloğlu 等 4 位作者2009-03-04Nanotechnology

Electrospinning of nanofibers with cyclodextrin inclusion complexes (CD-ICs) is particularly attractive since distinct properties can be obtained by combining the nanofibers with specific functions of the CD-ICs. Here we report on the electrospinning of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanofibers containing cyclodextr…

Nominally pure undoped parent manganite ${\text{LaMnO}}_{3}$ exhibits a puzzling behavior inconsistent with a simple picture of an $A$-type antiferromagnetic insulator (A-AFI) with a cooperative Jahn-Teller ordering. We do assign its anomalous properties to charge transfer (CT) instabilities and competition between in…
