In this paper, a novel method is presented to improve the torque density of pole-splitting permanent-magnet vernier machines (PSPMV), which has been proposed to meet the demands of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) drive system. The interspace between the flux-modulation poles (FMP) deserves to be exploited for producing…
Laboratory-based nano-scale X-ray computed tomography is a valuable tool for the visualization and quantification of microstructures within various materials. With approximately 150 nm 2D resolution, internal structures of a system can be probed non-destructively, which is not available with other imaging systems.Of si…

We have developed a suite of instruments for detecting and measuring a variety of gases near the surface and in the atmospheres of Earth and Mars. The main goal of the project is to provide evidence indicating there is life on Mars. A second goal is to provide important information about the Martian atmosphere in anti…

Two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials, including graphene and boron nitride (BN), have been of intense interest in recent years due to their exceptional electronic, thermal, and mechanical properties. Tailoring these novel properties to their maximum potential requires precise control of the atomic layer growth process.…
We demonstrate room temperature electroluminescence with Schottky contacts on n-doped germanium. We show that the electrical response and electroluminescence can be optimized by inserting a thin Al2O3layer prior to contact formation.
