A series of binary transition metal phosphides (Ni 3 P, Ni 12 P 5, Ni 2 P, Ni 5 P 4, NiP, NiP 2, FeP, FeP 2, FeP 4, VP 2, CoP) were investigated by solid state 31 P MAS NMR, leading to rather different lineshapes, shifts, relaxation times, and temperature dependences. The electronic structures of these compounds were…

Preparation and physical properties of wood/polypropylene/clay nanocomposites

Hongkwan Lee、Dae Su Kim2008-12-03Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Wood plastic composites (WPCs) are attracting a lot of interests because they are economic, environmentally friendly, and show fairly good performance. To improve the performance of a wood/polypropylene (PP) composite, an organoclay was incorporated as a nanosize filler in this work. WPCs were prepared by mel…

Abstract We report a novel strategy for preparing epoxy thermosetting systems with low shrinkage and improved flexibility and degradability. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) resin was cured with different proportions of hydroxyl‐terminated hyperbranched polymer (HBP), using ytterbium triflate as a cationic init…

How Rigid Rods Self‐Assemble at Curved Surfaces

Weizheng Zhou、Jianliang Cao、Wei-Chang Liu 等 4 位作者2008-12-03Angewandte Chemie International Edition

I'm forever blowing bubbles: Superstable foams comprising air bubbles stabilized by modified, rigid CaCO3 rods have a bimodal bubble-size distribution. The very high stability and stiffness of the rod-stabilized bubbles means that their spherical shape is retained when dried on glass substrates and that they could be…

One-Pot Synthesis of Substituted 2,2′-Bipyrroles. A Straightforward Route to Aryl Porphycenes

David Sánchez‐García、José I. Borrell、Santi Nonell2008-12-03Organic Letters

A one-pot reaction for the synthesis of 4,4'-diaryl- and 4,4'-diheteroaryl-substituted 2,2'-bipyrroles is described. The new methodology is based on the oxidative coupling of a 2-trimethylstannylated pyrrole and does not require chromatography. These 2,2'-bipyrroles can be used as precursors in a expeditious synthesis…

Landau Theory of Ferroelectric Domain Walls in Magnetoelectrics

M. Daraktchiev、Gustau Catalán、J. F. Scott2008-12-03Ferroelectrics

V. Janovec and J. Privratska developed [Ferroelectrics 204, 321 (1997)] a group theoretical model for the existence of pyromagnetism (or pyroelectricity) within the domain walls of an antiferromagnet (or antiferroelectric). However, their approach did not permit any estimate of magnitudes, or even whether it would be…

Hollow Calcium Carbonate Microsphere Formation in the Presence of Biopolymers and Additives

Michael F. Butler、William J. Frith、Christopher Rawlins 等 5 位作者2008-12-03Crystal Growth & Design

Directed crystallization is found in many natural systems, where the inorganic material provides the organism with superior barrier and mechanical properties. Using this principle of controlled nucleation and growth on a biopolymer (pectin) substrate, hollow shells of calcium carbonate were formed in certain reaction…

Pronounced Electrochemical Amphotericity of a Fused Donor–Acceptor Compound: A Planar Merge of TTF with a TCNQ‐Type Bithienoquinoxaline

Narrowing the gap: A compactly fused π-conjugated molecule combines a high-lying HOMO with a low-lying LUMO (Eox−Ered=0.52 eV) and a fairly low-lying LUMO+1 on the bridging unit, giving rise to strong optical charge-transfer transitions. A facile electron transfer has been observed by EPR and NMR spectroscopies.

A Simple and Versatile Route to Stable Quantum Dot−Dye Hybrids in Nonaqueous and Aqueous Solutions

Ting Ren、Prasun K. Mandal、Wolfgang Erker 等 8 位作者2008-12-03Journal of the American Chemical Society

Hybrid systems consisting of core/shell semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) and organic rylene dyes have been prepared and characterized. Complex formation is mediated by bidentate carboxylate moieties covalently linked to the dye molecules. The complexes were very stable with respect to time (at least months), dilution…

A simple and low-cost method to create metal-metal hybrid nanostructures possessing fairly regularly spaced "hot-spots" of surface plasmon resonances is proposed. The nanohybrid structure was prepared via self-assembly during a simple drop-casting procedure, using chemically synthesized silver nanowires and silver nan…

Phonon Band Structure of Si Nanowires: A Stability Analysis

Hartwin Peelaers、B. Partoens、F. M. Peeters2008-12-03Nano Letters

We present full ab initio calculations of the phonon band structure of thin Si nanowires oriented along the [110] direction. Using these phonon dispersion relations, we investigate the structural stability of these wires. We found that all studied wires were stable also when doped with either B or P, if the unit cell…
