Materials selection and residual solvent retention in biodegradable electrospun fibers

Jin Nam、Yan Huang、Sudha Agarwal 等 4 位作者2007-10-15Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Electrospun tissue engineering scaffolds provide mechanical support to seeded cells that populate the structure while depositing specific extracellular matrix components. The potent sterilizing agent 1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexafluoro‐2‐propanol (HFIP) is often used in electrospinning investigations involving biologicall…

Effective Enhancement of Fluorescence Signals in Rotaxane‐Doped Reversible Hydrosol–Gel Systems

Liangliang Zhu、Xiang Ma、Fengyuan Ji 等 5 位作者2007-10-15Chemistry - A European Journal

Rotaxane-based nanoscale architectures have a huge potential to be processed into widely applied devices. In this work, light-driven rotaxanes with fluorescent chromophores based on alpha-cyclodextrin (alpha-CyD) have been doped into amphoteric thermoreversible hydrosol-gels to form a new type of disperse system with…

Electrical resistivity of ultrafine-grained copper with nanoscale growth twins

X. H. Chen、Lei Lu、Kechao Lu2007-10-15Journal of Applied Physics

We have investigated electrical resistivities of high-purity ultrafine-grained Cu containing different concentrations of nanoscale growth twins, but having identical grain size. The samples were synthesized by pulsed electrodeposition, wherein the density of twins was varied systematically by adjusting the processing…

Enhancing UV photoconductivity of ZnO nanobelt by polyacrylonitrile functionalization

Jr‐Hau He、Yen‐Heng Lin、Michael E. McConney 等 6 位作者2007-10-15Journal of Applied Physics

UV photodetector fabricated using a single ZnO nanobelt (NB) has shown a photoresponse enhancement up to 750 times higher than that of a bare ZnO NB after coating with ∼20nm plasma polymerized acrylonitrile (PP-AN) nanoscale film. The mechanism for this colossal photoconductivity is suggested as a consequence of the e…

Transmission through a biased graphene bilayer barrier

Johan Nilsson、A. H. Castro Neto、F. Guinea 等 4 位作者2007-10-15Physical Review B

We study the electronic transmission through a graphene bilayer in the presence of an applied bias between the layers. We consider different geometries involving interfaces between both a monolayer and a bilayer and between two bilayers. The applied bias opens a sizable gap in the spectrum inside the bilayer barrier r…

Growth mode control of the free carrier density in SrTiO3−δ films

A. Ohtomo、H. Y. Hwang2007-10-15Journal of Applied Physics

We have studied the growth dynamics and electronic properties of SrTiO3−δ homoepitaxial films by pulsed laser deposition. We find that the two dominant factors determining the growth mode are the kinetics of surface crystallization and of oxidation. When matched, persistent two-dimensional layer-by-layer growth can be…

Impact of elasticity on the piezoresponse of adjacent ferroelectric domains investigated by scanning force microscopy

T. Jungk、Ákos Hoffmann、E. Soergel2007-10-15Journal of Applied Physics

As a consequence of elasticity, mechanical deformations of crystals occur on a length scale comparable to their thickness. This is exemplified by applying a homogeneous electric field to a multidomain ferroelectric crystal: As one domain is expanding, the adjacent ones are contracting, leading to clamping at the domai…

Exchange biasing of single-domain Ni nanoparticles spontaneously grown in an antiferromagnetic MnO matrix

Daniel P. Shoemaker、Madeleine Grossman、Ram Seshadri2007-10-15arXiv

Exchange biased composites of ferromagnetic single-domain Ni nanoparticles embedded within large grains of MnO have been prepared by reduction of Ni$_x$Mn$_{1-x}$O$_4$ phases in flowing hydrogen. The Ni precipitates are 15-30 nm in extent, and the majority are completely encased within the MnO matrix. The manner in wh…

Influence of Zeeman splitting and thermally excited polaron states on magnetoelectrical and magnetothermal properties of magnetoresistive polycrystalline manganite La 0.8 Sr 0.2 MnO 3

S. Sergeenkov、J. Mucha、M. Pekala 等 5 位作者2007-10-15Journal of Applied Physics

Some possible connection between spin and charge degrees of freedom in magnetoresistive manganites is investigated through a thorough experimental study of the magnetic [alternating current susceptibility and direct current (dc) magnetization] and transport (resistivity and thermal conductivity) properties. Measuremen…

Hydrogen Adsorption of Back Side of Graphene

Atsushi Ito、Arimichi Takayama、HIROAKI NAKAMURA2007-10-15arXiv

We studied the interaction between a single hydrogen atom and a single graphene using classical molecular dynamics simulation with modified Brenner REBO potential. Three interactions, which are adsorption, reflection, penetration, were observed. Overhang structure appears and creates an adsorption site on the backside…

Intersubband spin-orbit coupling and spin splitting in symmetric quantum wells

F. V. Kyrychenko、C. A. Ullrich、I. D'Amico2007-10-15arXiv

In semiconductors with inversion asymmetry, spin-orbit coupling gives rise to the well-known Dresselhaus and Rashba effects. If one considers quantum wells with two or more conduction subbands, an additional, intersubband-induced spin-orbit term appears whose strength is comparable to the Rashba coupling, and which re…

Coulomb Impurity Problem in Graphene

Vitor M. Pereira、Johan Nilsson、A. H. Castro Neto2007-10-15OpenAlex

We address the problem of an unscreened Coulomb charge in graphene and calculate the local density of states and displaced charge as a function of energy and distance from the impurity. This is done nonperturbatively in two different ways: (1) solving the problem exactly by studying numerically the tight-binding model…

Band Gap of CsCl Film's as a Function of Lattice Constant

Kuldeep Kumar、P. Arun、N. C. Mehra 等 5 位作者2007-10-14arXiv

The manuscript reports experimental estimation of Cesium Chloride film's band gap and compares it with theoretical simulations. The band gap shows a strong dependence on it's lattice constant. Also, it is seen that the point defects present in the films strongly affects it's optical properties.
