Supported hydrotalcites as highly active solid base catalysts

Ferry Winter、A.J. van Dillen、Krijn P. de Jong2005-01-01Chemical Communications

Mg-Al hydrotalcite platelets with a lateral size of 20 nm were deposited on carbon nanofibers and the resulting supported catalyst exhibited a specific activity in the condensation of acetone four times that of unsupported hydrotalcites due to the higher number of active edge sites.

Template assisted assembly of cobalt nanobowl arrays

Anshul Srivastava、S. Madhavi、Timothy J. White 等 4 位作者2005-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

3-D interconnected networks of magnetic cobalt nanobowls with a wall size of <100 nm dimension have been fabricated. A novel technique was used to overcome the problem of volume shrinkage usually observed in such structures when formed by chemical conversion route. Cobalt particles were formed in the interstitial spac…

Derivation of Higher Order Gradient Continuum Models from Atomistic Models for Crystalline Solids

Mark W. Arndt、Michael Griebel2005-01-01Multiscale Modeling and Simulation

We propose a new upscaling scheme for the passage from atomistic to continuum mechanical models for crystalline solids. It is based on a Taylor expansion of the deformation function and allows us to capture the microscopic properties and the discreteness effects of the underlying atomistic system up to an arbitrary or…

Tungsten Oxide Nanowire Growth by Chemically Induced Strain

Christian Klinke2005-01-01Cronfa (Swansea University)

We have investigated the formation of tungsten oxide nanowires under different CVD conditions. We find that exposure of oxidized tungsten films to hydrogen and methane at 900C leads to the formation of a dense array of typically 10 nm diameter nanowires. Structural and chemical analysis shows that the wires are crysta…

FRankenstein becomes a cyborg: The automatic recombination and realignment of fold recognition models in CASP6

Jan Kosiński、Michał J. Gajda、Iwona A. Cymerman 等 15 位作者2005-01-01Proteins Structure Function and Bioinformatics

In the course of CASP6, we generated models for all targets using a new version of the "FRankenstein's monster approach." Previously (in CASP5) we were able to build many very accurate full-atom models by selection and recombination of well-folded fragments obtained from crude fold recognition (FR) results, followed b…

The ligand N,N'-bis[(6-carboxy-2-pyridylmethyl]ethylenediamine-N,N'-diacetic acid (H(4)bpeda) was synthesised using an improved procedure which requires a reduced number of steps and leads to a higher yield with respect to the published procedure. It was obtained in three steps from diethylpyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate a…

A Tracer Study of Oxide Growth during Spark Anodizing of Aluminum

F. Monfort、A. Berkani、E. Matykina 等 7 位作者2005-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Sequential anodizing is employed to investigate the mechanism of coating growth on aluminum under sparking in a phosphate electrolyte. Thus, coatings are formed in a silicate electrolyte and then in the phosphate electrolyte, with the location of phosphorus in the final coating being identified by electron probe micro…

Takeyuki Sekimoto、Ken Kurosaki、Hiroaki Muta 等 4 位作者2005-01-01MATERIALS TRANSACTIONS

Half-Heusler compounds have a possibility as a new thermoelectric material due to the large thermoelectric power and low thermal conductivity derived from the band structure and voids in the crystal, respectively. Among these materials, we have paid attention to (Ti,Zr,Hf)CoSb system, and have investigated the improve…

A Review of Slag Splashing

Kenneth C. Mills、Yuchu Su、A. B. Fox 等 6 位作者2005-01-01ISIJ International

This review critically evaluates the factors affecting the process of slag splashing. Two mechanisms are involved in slag splashing, namely ‘slag wash coating’ and ‘slag ejection coating’. Our knowledge of slag splashing is largely based on physical modelling studies. It is necessary to optimise the following for good…
