Low phonon energy fluorozirconate-based glass ceramics for efficient rare-earth luminescence

Charlotte Pfau、Ulrich Skrzypczak、M. Miclea 等 6 位作者2014-01-01OpenAlex

Fluorozirconate-based, highly transparent glass ceramics doped with Nd3+ exhibit very low multiphonon relaxation rates following an exponential energy gap dependence. The resulting high radiative quantum efficiencies show the material’s potential for amplifier applications.

I. Accurate 50-200 keV proton stopping cross sections in solids II. Lateral growth of Si wires on Si (100) substrate

Sergey Dedyulin2014-01-01Scholarship@Western (Western University)

Medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) is used to determine the elemental depth profile in the first few hundred angstroms of a sample. The interpretation of MEIS spectra requires an accurate knowledge of the rate at which the ions lose their energy - the stopping cross section, ε. The rate of energy loss has been fairly…

Si-based Microcavity Devices with Ge Quantum Dots

Jinsong Xia、Cheng Zeng、Yong Zhang 等 6 位作者2014-01-01OpenAlex

Site-controlled single Ge quantum dot was grown on patterned silicon-on-insulator substrate. The single dot was then precisely embedded into a photonic crystal microcavity. Resonant photoluminescence was observed from the single Ge dot in the cavity.

Elastic constants and Fermi surface topology change in Calaverite AuTe2: A density functional study

Vijay Kumar Gudelli、V. Kanchana2014-01-01AIP conference proceedings

Structural, elastic, electronic and Fermi surface studies of AuTe2 have been carried out by means of first principles calculations based on density functional theory. The calculated ground state properties agree well with the experiment. Fermi surface and elastic constants are predicted for the first time and from the…

Changes of Band Gap Structure of 1-D Quasi-Periodic Photonic Crystal at Angular Incidence

Qin Zhang、Wen Sheng Li、Hai Huang2014-01-01Advanced materials research

The transmission spectra of 1-D quasi-periodic photonic crystal of positive-negative index structure at angular incidence was studied by transfer matrix method. The results show that the photonic band gap structure changes along with different incidence angles, a new photonic band gap corresponding toω/ωpe=1 will appe…

Legal aspects of handling and disposal of nuclear waste – an Indian perspective

P. Sree Sudha2014-01-01Journal of Applied Geochemistry

India's rise as a global power has made it an extremely lucrative market, especially in the field of nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is often painted as a ‘clean’ energy option, and therefore a solution to climate change. Splitting the atom doesn't produce greenhouse gases, but the nuclear fuel cycle is far from clean:…

Large Photo-Induced Group Delay Variations in Chalcogenide-on-Silicon Mach-Zehnder Interferometers

Ran Califa、Yuri Kaganovskii、Dvir Munk 等 7 位作者2014-01-01OpenAlex

The rapid post-fabrication trimming of the group index in hybrid chalcogenide-on-silicon Mach-Zehnder interferometers is demonstrated. Index changes of 0.065 are achieved through photo-induced mass transfer in an As10Se90 layer.

EVALUATION ON LEACHING BEHAVIOR OF CEMENTITIOUS NUCLEAR WASTE FORM WITH USING ELECTRICAL TREATMENT

Katsufumi Hashimoto、Hiroshi Yokota2014-01-01Cement Science and Concrete Technology

Fluorescence from a quantum dot and metallic nanosphere hybrid system

Daniel Schindel、Mahi R. Singh2014-01-01AIP conference proceedings

We present energy absorption and interference in a quantum dot-metallic nanosphere system embedded on a dielectric substrate. A control field is applied to induce dipole moments in the nanosphere and the quantum dot, and a probe field is applied to monitor absorption. Dipole moments in the quantum dot or the metal nan…

Two-site diamond-like point defects as new single-photon emitters

Zoltán Bodrog、Ádám Gali2014-01-01EPJ Web of Conferences

In this small review, we recall two promising candidates for biomarker nanosystems, in which a two-site defect embedded in a diamond-like lattice makes a single-photon source. The two candidates are the silicon-vacancy defect in diamond, and the carbon antisite-vacancy pair in 4H silicon carbide.
