Lasing in whispering gallery mode in ZnO nanonails

D. Wang、Hye-Won Seo、C. C. Tin 等 7 位作者2006-05-01Journal of Applied Physics

We report on the observation of ultraviolet lasing in optically pumped ZnO nanonails synthesized by thermal chemical vapor deposition method. The lasing threshold was found to be 17MWcm−2. Very sharp emission peaks (full width at half maximum of 0.08nm) were observed in the emission spectrum, indicating a high Q facto…

New Linear-Parabolic Rate Equation for Thermal Oxidation of Silicon

Takanobu Watanabe、Kosuke Tatsumura、Iwao Ohdomari2006-05-01Physical Review Letters

We propose a new oxidation rate equation for silicon supposing only a diffusion of oxidizing species but not including any rate-limiting step by interfacial reaction. It is supposed that diffusivity is suppressed in a strained oxide region near SiO(2)/Si the interface. The expression of a parabolic constant in the new…

Optical and electrical properties of undoped ZnO films

Yow-Jon Lin、Chia-Lung Tsai、Yang‐Ming Lu 等 4 位作者2006-05-01Journal of Applied Physics

Optical and electrical properties of undoped ZnO films were investigated in this study. We find that the conductivity increased with increasing the ratio of (blue luminescence+green luminescence) to ultraviolet luminescence [i.e., (BL+GL)∕UVL] defect emission intensities, due to the increase of the singly ionized oxyg…

Microstructural Characterization of Porous Silicon Carbide Membrane Support With and Without Alumina Additive

Manabu Fukushima、You Zhou、Hiroyuki Miyazaki 等 8 位作者2006-05-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Porous silicon carbide (SiC) membrane supports sintered at 1500°–1800°C were prepared by cold isostatic pressing (CIP) under different pressures and using different amounts of alumina additive (0%–4%). The relationship between processing factors and pore size and microstructure was examined. Varying the sintering temp…

Annexin A5-Functionalized Bimodal Lipid-Based Contrast Agents for the Detection of Apoptosis

Geralda A. F. van Tilborg、Willem J. M. Mulder、Niko Deckers 等 7 位作者2006-05-01Bioconjugate Chemistry

Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, plays an important role in the etiology of a variety of diseases, including cancer and myocardial infarction. Visualization of apoptosis would allow both early detection of therapy efficiency and evaluation of disease progression. To that aim, we synthesized two types of lipid-base…

Growth of thicker zinc-blende CrSb layers by using (In,Ga)As buffer layers

Jie Deng、Jianhua Zhao、J. F. Bi 等 7 位作者2006-05-01Journal of Applied Physics

Zinc-blende CrSb (zb-CrSb) layers with room-temperature ferromagnetism have been grown on (In,Ga)As buffer layers epitaxially prepared on (001) GaAs substrates by molecular-beam epitaxy. Compared with the typical thickness [2–3 ML (ML denotes monolayers)] of zb-CrSb grown directly on GaAs, the thickness of zb-CrSb gro…

Correlation between Rheological, Mechanical, and Barrier Properties in New Copolyamide-Based Nanocomposite Films

G. M. Russo、George P. Simon、Loredana Incarnato2006-05-01Macromolecules

This work focuses on the possibility of improving performance properties of polyamide-layered silicate nanocomposite films for packaging applications by using, as alternative matrix, a statistical copolymer of the nylon-6 having a partially aromatic structure. Nanocomposites at different silicate loadings (commercial…

Compact Spinning Effect on Cotton Yarn Quality: Interactions with Fiber Characteristics

Mourad Krifa、M. Dean Ethridge2006-05-01Textile Research Journal

Compact or condensed spinning technology is widely considered as the new benchmark for staple yarn quality. The enhanced structure of compact yarn typically results in a lower hairiness and improved mechanical properties. The present study examines these two key benefits of compact technology when applied to short-to-…

Elastic properties of nanowires

Alexandre F. Fonseca、C. P. Malta、Douglas S. Galvão2006-05-01Journal of Applied Physics

We present a model to study Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio of the composite material of amorphous nanowires. It is an extension of the model derived by two of us [da Fonseca and Galvão, Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 175502 (2004)] to study the elastic properties of amorphous nanosprings. The model is based on twisting and…

The internal quantum efficiency (ηint) of the near-band-edge (NBE) excitonic photoluminescence (PL) in ZnO epilayers was significantly improved by eliminating point defects, as well as by the use of ZnO high-temperature-annealed self-buffer layer (HITAB) on a ScAlMgO4 substrate as epitaxial templates. Direct Observation of the Release of Phenylalanine from Diphenylalanine Nanotubes

Victoria L. Sedman、Lihi Adler‐Abramovich、Stephanie Allen 等 5 位作者2006-05-01Journal of the American Chemical Society

The core recognition motif of the amyloidogenic beta-amyloid polypeptide is a dipeptide of phenylalanine. This dipeptide readily self-assembles to form discrete, hollow nanotubes with high persistence lengths. The simplicity of the nanotube formation, combined with ideal physical properties, make these nanotubes highl…
