On the possibility of the observation of valence electron density for individual bonds in proteins in conventional difference maps

Pavel V. Afonine、Vladimir Y. Lunin、N. Muzet 等 4 位作者2004-01-24Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography

In the last decade, high-resolution data have become available for macromolecular objects. Furthermore, ultrahigh-resolution diffraction data (resolution close to 0.6 A) have been collected for several protein crystals. This allows the study of fine details of the electron-density distribution such as the deformation…

Solving the structure of the bubble protein using the anomalous sulfur signal from single-crystal in-house Cu Kα diffraction data only

Johan G. Olsen、Claus Flensburg、Ole Olsen 等 5 位作者2004-01-24Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography

A small cysteine-rich protein, the function of which remains elusive, was discovered in the exudate of a Penicillium species. Crystal diffraction experiments conducted using in-house Cu Kalpha radiation and an R-AXIS IV++ imaging-plate detector yielded high-quality data to 1.4 A, with a distinguishable anomalous signa…

Rafail F. Khairutdinov、James K. Hurst2004-01-24Langmuir

Spiropyrans undergo reversible photoisomerization between their ring-closed (spiro) and ring-open (merocyanine) forms when exposed alternately to ultraviolet and visible light. Rates of K + ion leakage from phosphatidylcholine unilamellar vesicles containing a K + -selective crown ether attached to an amphiphilic spir…

The impact of Lys→Arg surface mutations on the crystallization of the globular domain of RhoGDI

Jan Czepas、Y. Devedjiev、Daniel Krowarsch 等 6 位作者2004-01-24Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography

The potential of rational surface mutagenesis for enhanced protein crystallization is being probed in an ongoing effort. In previous work, it was hypothesized that residues with high conformational entropy such as Glu and Lys are suitable targets for surface mutagenesis, as they are rarely incorporated in crystal cont…

ABA triblock copolymers comprised of poly(β-benzyl- l -aspartate) (PBLA) as an A segment and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as the B segment were precisely synthesized by a ring-opening polymerization of the N -carboxyanhydride of BLA initiated from amines at both terminals of the PEO chain. The copolymers have a number-a…

Coadsorption of D2O and CO on Pt(111) Studied by in Situ High-Resolution X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy

M. Kinne、Thomas Fuhrmann‐Lieker、Junfa Zhu 等 6 位作者2004-01-24Langmuir

The adsorption of D 2 O on Pt(111) and the coadsorption with CO have been revisited by quantitative and in situ high-resolution X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). During D 2 O adsorption at 110 K, O 1s spectra clearly show the known formation of a bilayer and multilayers. As indicated by a binding energy change o…

Electric field investigation in high voltage power modules using finite element simulations and partial discharge measurements

David Frey、Jean‐Luc Schanen、Jean-Louis Augé 等 4 位作者2004-01-24OpenAlex

The development of high voltage power module using IGBTs leads to serious problems concerning the electric field insulation. The values of these electric fields are very important regarding the capabilities of the dielectric gels used in the power packages. Solutions have to be developed to ensure limited field and go…

Cyclic Voltammetry and Bulk Electronic Properties of Soluble Carbon Nanotubes

Manuel Melle‐Franco、Massimo Marcaccio、Demis Paolucci 等 8 位作者2004-01-24Journal of the American Chemical Society

The bulk electronic properties of pyrrolidine-functionalized nanotubes are obtained from cyclic voltammetry measurements and discussed in the light of quantum chemical calculations. The functionalization is found to preserve the metallic character and to hardly affect the average density of electronic states.

During the initial growth of the ferromagnetic oxide SrRuO3 on TiO2-terminated SrTiO3, we observe a self-organized conversion of the terminating atomic layer from RuO2 to SrO. This conversion induces an abrupt change in growth mode from layer by layer to growth by step advancement, indicating a large enhancement of th…

Flashy Silver Nanoparticles

Peter C. Andersen、Michele L. Jacobson、Kathy L. Rowlen2004-01-24OpenAlex

Temporal fluctuations in the Raman spectrum from molecules adsorbed to noble metal colloids (i.e., “blinking”) has been viewed as a single molecule signature. It is demonstrated here that silver colloids exhibit blinking that is independent of the nature of the adsorbate. Blinking was observed on silver colloids in th…
