In situ infrared study of the modification of the surface of activated carbon by ammonia, water and hydrogen

Brian J. Meldrum、Colin H. Rochester1990-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Faraday Transactions

The reaction of an oxidised activated carbon with gaseous ammonia converts surface cyclic anhydride groups to amide and ammonium carboxylate species, which at elevated temperatures decompose to nitrile. Amine and alcohol species are also adsorbed products of ammonia treatment. Cyclic anhydride groups were hydrolysed b…

Kiyotaka Asakura、Yasuhiro Iwasawa1990-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Faraday Transactions

Various kinds of supported Ru cluster have been prepared by using the surface reaction of Ru3(CO)12 with inorganic oxides such as V2O5, SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3, K-doped Al2O3, and MgO followed by H2 reduction at 723 K. Their structures have been determined by means of EXAFS. Ru3(CO)12 supported on V2O5 was observed to be co…

Blends of cellulose with nylon 6 and poly(ε‐caprolactone) prepared by a solution‐coagulation method

Yoshtyuki Nishio、R. St. John Manley1990-01-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract Conditions are described for preparing blends of cellulose with nylon 6 (Ny6) and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) from solutions in N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc)– lithium chloride (LiCl) by coagulation in a non‐solvent. The binary blend films of both series, obtained over a wide composition range (10/90–90/10) from…

High coercivity in melt-spun SmFe/sub 10/(Ti,M)/sub 2/ ribbons (M=V/Cr/Mn/Mo)

M. Okada、A. Kojima、Kazumasa Yamagishi 等 4 位作者1990-01-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

Magnetic properties of SmFe/sub 10/(Ti,M)/sub 2/ melt-spun ribbons were studied, where M is V, Cr, Mn, and Mo. The ribbons (M=V/Cr/Mo) quenched at 20 m/s exhibit the high coercivities of 4.2-5.5 kOe. Annealing the ribbons quenched at 40 m/s enhances their coercivities in the range of 5.9-10.0 kOe. In particular, SmFe/…

Hot Corrosion of Preoxidized Ni by a Thin Fused Na2 SO 4 Film at 900°C

N. Ōtsuka、Robert A. Rapp1990-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

The hot corrosion of preoxidized 99% and 99.99% pure Ni covered with a thin Na 2 SO 4 film in a SO 2 ‐ O 2 gas atmosphere was investigated at 900°C by an electrochemical method using a sodium sensor and an oxygen probe. The preoxidation conditions were varied in order to affect the sulfidation of Ni, which resulted in…

Bronze Disease: A Review of Some Chemical Problems and the Role of Relative Humidity

David Scott1990-01-01Journal of the American Institute for Conservation

A general review of some of the theories proposed to account for the process of “bronze disease” is presented from both the historical and chemical points of view. The corrosion product of most serious concern, cuprous chloride, and its inter-relationship with some of the other important corrosion products of copper a…

The influence of Ga-substitution on the coercivity of Nd-(Fe,Co)-B sintered permanent magnets

J. Fidler、Claudia Groiss、M. Tokunaga1990-01-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

In Co-substituted Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets, several additional phases such as Nd(Fe,Co)/sub y/B/sub ?/ with y=2, 3, and 4 have been found besides the hard magnetic phase and the Nd-rich intergranular phase. The low coercivity of the magnet is attributed to the occurrence of these soft ferromagnetic phases. In Ga-doped…
