A high-performance alginate hydrogel binder for the Si/C anode of a Li-ion battery

An alginate hydrogel binder is prepared through the cross linking effect of Na alginate with Ca(2+) ions, which leads to a remarkable improvement in the electrochemical performance of the Si/C anode of a Li-ion battery.

An organic–inorganic based surface film was formed on a 5 V-class LiNi 0.5 Mn 1.5 O 4 cathode by tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphite (TMSP). This surface-modified cathode exhibited significantly improved electrochemical properties in terms of cycling stability and rate capability.
