Melt Crystallization and Morphology of Poly(p‐phenylene sulfide) under High Pressure

Jun Lü、Rui Huang、Il‐Kwon Oh2007-02-21Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics

Abstract The high‐pressure melt‐crystallization behaviors of poly( p ‐phenylene sulfide) (PPS) were investigated using WAXD, DSC, TEM and SEM. PPS extended‐chain crystals with c ‐axis thickness exceeding 4.5 µm were formed at high pressure. The DSC results showed that the melting temperature and melting enthalpy of hi…

A. Marcilla、A N Jesús García、Maria del Remedio Hernández2007-02-21Energy & Fuels

The thermal degradation of blends of different percentages of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) in vacuum gas oil (VGO) has been carried out in a fluidized-bed reactor. A wide range of percentages of the polymer has been selected for the study, including 0, 5, 25, 75, and 100% LDPE by weight. The strategy of mixing plas…

A novel strategy for the crystallization of proteins: X-ray diffraction validation

Steven B. Larson、John Day、Robert Cudney 等 4 位作者2007-02-21Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography

Recently, the hypothesis was advanced that protein crystallization could be driven by the inclusion of small molecules rich in hydrogen-bonding, hydrophobic and electrostatic bonding possibilities. Conventional organic and biologically active molecules would promote lattice formation by their mediation of intermolecul…

Patrizia Rasmussen、Alberto Barbiroli、Francesco Bonomi 等 8 位作者2007-02-21Biopolymers

Abstract Prolonged exposure (>90 days) of bovine β‐lactoglobulin (BLG) to subdenaturing concentrations of either urea or potassium thiocyanate resulted in the formation of ordered polymers in the form of fibrils. The fibrils obtained with each chaotrope showed major differences in morphology, surface properties, th…

Development of structural order during supercooling of a fragile oxide melt

Louis Hennet、I. Pozdnyakova、A. Bytchkov 等 12 位作者2007-02-21The Journal of Chemical Physics

The authors have studied the structural evolution of the fragile glass-forming liquid CaAl2O4 during supercooling from the stable liquid phase to the cold glass below Tg. The evolution is characterized by a sharpening of the first diffraction peak and a shortening of the average nearest-neighbor bond length around 1.2…

Renu Sharma、Peter Rez、Megan Brown 等 5 位作者2007-02-21Nanotechnology

In situ transmission electron microscopy studies have been carried out to determine the effect of temperature and pressure on the growth of carbon nanotubes by the Ni-catalyzed chemical vapour deposition of acetylene. The temperature range explored was 450–650 °C and the acetylene pressure range was 0.8–20 mTorr. Our…

Combined molecular and supramolecular bottom-up nanoengineering for enhanced nonlinear optical response: Experiments, modeling, and approaching the fundamental limit

Javier Pérez‐Moreno、Inge Asselberghs、Kai Song 等 13 位作者2007-02-21The Journal of Chemical Physics

The authors study the combination of two independent strategies that enhance the hyperpolarizability of ionic organic chromophores. The first molecular-level strategy is the extension of the conjugation path in the active chromophore. The second supramolecular-level strategy is the bottom-up nanoengineering of an incl…

Origin of Near-Infrared Absorption and Large Second Hyperpolarizability in Oxyallyl Diradicaloids: A Three-State Model Approach

Kada Yesudas、K. Bhanuprakash2007-02-21The Journal of Physical Chemistry A

Bis(benzofuranonyl)methanolate (BM4i4i) dye and croconate dyes (derivatives of oxyallyl molecules) in general are known to have intense transitions in the near-infrared (NIR) region, indicating small transition energies and large transition dipole moments. These molecules have been reported in the literature to have v…

Ned A. Stephenson、Alexis T. Bell2007-02-21Inorganic Chemistry

We have recently proposed a mechanism for the epoxidation of cyclooctene by H2O2 catalyzed by iron(III) [tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)]porphyrin chloride, (F20TPP)FeCl, in solvent containing methanol [Stephenson, N. A.; Bell, A.T. Inorg. Chem. 2006, 45, 2758-2766]. In that study, we found that catalysis did not occur un…

Reverse-Keggin ions are reported in which a p-block element (antimony) occupies the twelve vertices of a truncated tetrahedron while a d-block element (manganese or zinc) occupies the tetrahedral central cavity. The exterior of the reverse-Keggins also acts as tridentate ligands to further d-block centers.
