Effect of Alloying Elements on the Susceptibility to Sulfide Stress Cracking of Line Pipe Steels

Seong Ung Koh、Boo Young Yang、K. Y. Kim2004-03-01CORROSION

The effects of alloying elements (Cu-Ni, Mo, and Ti) in line pipe steels on the susceptibility to sulfide stress cracking (SSC) was studied with respect to hydrogen permeation, crack nucleation, and crack propagation. The SSC susceptibility was evaluated using a constant elongation rate test (CERT) method in a NACE St…

Deposition and Wetting Characteristics of Polyelectrolyte Multilayers on Plasma-Modified Porous Polyethylene

George W. Greene、George C. Yao、Rina Tannenbaum2004-03-01Langmuir

Hydrophilic and chemically reactive porous media were prepared by adsorbing functional polymers at the surface of sintered polyethylene membranes. Modification of the membrane was accomplished by first exposing the membrane to an oxygen glow discharge gas plasma to introduce an electrostatic charge at the membrane sur…

Abstract Supported molybdena catalysts, with TiO 2 , CeO 2 and Al 2 O 3 supports, were studied by XPS and ISS. It was found that reliable results are obtained only when samples are calcined and transferred into the ultrahigh vacuum system without further contact with the ambient atmosphere (‘ in situ calcination’). Th…

An inherently safer process of cyclohexane oxidation using pure oxygen—An example of how better process safety leads to better productivity

Jenq‐Renn Chen2004-03-01Process Safety Progress

Abstract This paper discusses how detailed studies on flammability at elevated pressures and temperatures can be applied to liquid‐phase oxidation of cyclohexane using air/oxygen and lead to an inherently safer process with better productivity. Flammability tests of cyclohexane/oxygen vapor and vapor bubbles under act…

Observation of negative line tensions from Plateau border regions in dry foam films

Jean-Christophe Géminard、Andrzej Żywociński、F. Caillier 等 4 位作者2004-03-01Philosophical Magazine Letters

We measured the angles produced in the Plateau border region of ‘dry’ soap films. In a simple experimental geometry, we demonstrated that a negative line tension can be attributed to these regions. This result has important consequences for the theoretical description of foams approaching the dry limit.

Synthesis of Structurally‐Controlled AIDS Vaccine Model with Glyco‐Peptide Dendrimer Scaffolds

Huricha Baigude、Kaname Katsuraya、Kohsaku Okuyama 等 4 位作者2004-03-01Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics

Abstract Summary: A novel glyco‐peptide dendrimer‐type AIDS vaccine model with a well‐defined structure was synthesized. A low‐substituted, monodispersed, glyco‐peptide dendrimer was prepared by binding maltose to a proline‐poly(lysine) dendrimer with monofunctional prolyl amino groups on the periphery. To the hemisph…

Solubility of Silver and Palladium in BaTiO 3

Shao‐Ju Shih、Wei‐Hsing Tuan2004-03-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Silver, palladium, and their alloys are frequently used as electrode materials for BaTiO 3 (BT) based dielectrics. However, the electrodes and dielectrics usually are cofired at high temperatures, and silver and palladium can dissolve into the BT during cofiring. In the present study, the solubility of silver and pall…

Instrumentation for Studies of Electron Emission and Charging From Insulators

Clint Thomson、V. V. Zav’yalov、JR Dennison2004-03-01Digital Commons - USU (Utah State University)

Making measurements of electron emission properties of insulators is difficult since insulators can charge either negatively or positively under charge particle bombardment. In addition, high incident energies or high fluences can result in modification of a material’s conductivity, bulk and surface charge profile, st…

Application limits of stainless steels in the petroleum industry

Markus Oberndorfer、Karin Thayer、M. Kästenbauer2004-03-01Materials and Corrosion

Abstract Stainless steels have a great variety of potential applications in the petroleum industry, mainly as an alternative to carbon steel in corrosive environments. Within a number of media that can cause corrosion problems with these materials, only chloride solutions and hydrogen sulfide are of importance in oilf…

Determining the Absorption Properties of Split-Type Microfiber Fabrics by Measuring the Change in Color Depth

Jae‐Hyung Lee、Seong Hun Kim、Kwang Ju Lee 等 5 位作者2004-03-01Textile Research Journal

When a textile material absorbs a liquid, its color appears deeper than that when it is dry because of the difference in reflectance. The difference in the diffuse reflection between the air and the liquid leads to a difference in color depth between the dry and wet conditions. Using this observation, it is possible t…

Artificial Weathering and Recycling Effect on Intumescent Polypropylenebased Blends

X. Almeras、Michel Le Bras、Peter Hornsby 等 7 位作者2004-03-01Journal of Fire Sciences

The first part of this work deals with the effect of ageing (artificial weathering) on an intumescent flame-retarded ammonium polyphosphate (APP)/polyamide-6 (PA-6)/polypropylene (PP) blend. The study of the fire properties using the cone calorimeter shows a decrease in the performance caused by the artificial weather…

Regan D. Hartnell、Dennis P. Arnold2004-03-01European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry

Abstract The oxidative addition of bis(dibenzylideneacetone)platinum(0) to meso ‐bromo‐5,15‐diarylporphyrins in the presence of PPh 3 has been shown to be an effective way of synthesising η 1 ‐organoplatinum porphyrins in high yields. This methodology has been extended to synthesise various palladio‐ and platinioporph…

We report on the optical and structural properties of a series of ZnO1−xSx films deposited by radio-frequency sputtering on float glass and sapphire substrates. In the range 0 < x < 0.4 we find that the films have wurtzite symmetry and the lattice constant varies linearly on the composition as confirmed by photoelectr…
