Where is magnetic anisotropy field pointing to?

M. Gutowski2013-12-26arXiv (Cornell University)

The desired result of magnetic anisotropy investigations is the determination of value(s) of various anisotropy constant(s). This is sometimes difficult, especially when the precise knowledge of saturation magnetization is required, as it happens in ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) studies. In such cases we usually resor…

S. V. Iordanskǐ2013-12-26arXiv (Cornell University)

The motion of colloids in the flow field of a viscous liquid is investigated. The small colloid size compare to the macroscopical scale of the flow allow to calculate their velocity relative to that of the liquid. If the inner colloid density is larger then the density of the liquid the flow field has the domains wher…

Bulk topological insulators as inborn spintronics detectors

Yuki Shiomi、Ken Nomura、Y. Kajiwara 等 8 位作者2013-12-26arXiv (Cornell University)

Detection and manipulation of electrons' spins are key prerequisites for spin-based electronics or spintronics. This is usually achieved by contacting ferromagnets with metals or semiconductors, in which the relaxation of spins due to spin-orbit coupling limits both the efficiency and the length scale. In topological…

Size effect on deformation twinning at the nanoscale in hcp metals

Ya-Fang Guo、Shuang Xu、Xiao-Zhi Tang 等 5 位作者2013-12-26arXiv (Cornell University)

Deformation twinning is generally considered to be the primary mechanism for hexagonal close-packed (hcp) metals due to their limited slip systems. Recent microcompression experiments on hcp metals point to intriguing strong size effects on twinning mechanisms, indicating that pyramidal slips dominate compression. In t…
