Optical parametric amplification in a lithium triborate crystal tunable from 0.65 to 2.5 μm

Shujie Lin、J. Y. Huang、Jiwu Ling 等 5 位作者1991-11-25Applied Physics Letters

We investigate the phase-matching properties and the performances of lithium triborate (LBO) crystals, angle- and temperature-tuned to achieve type-I phase matching for ps, high-power, tunable optical parametric amplification (OPA). A novel retracing behavior was observed in the tuning curves of the LBO OPA.

Unusual photoemission spectral function of quasi-one-dimensional metals

B. Dardel、D. Malterre、M. Grioni 等 6 位作者1991-11-25Physical Review Letters

We have carried out high-resolution photoemission experiments on two quasi-one-dimensional compounds: ${\mathrm{K}}_{0.3}$${\mathrm{MoO}}_{3}$ and (${\mathrm{TaSe}}_{4}$${)}_{2}$I. In both systems, a metal-insulator transition associated with a lattice distortion is reported. We show that the Fermi-step characteristic…

Thermal treatment studies of the photoluminescence intensity of porous silicon

Chuen‐Jinn Tsai、K.-H. Li、J. Sarathy 等 7 位作者1991-11-25Applied Physics Letters

Thermal annealing studies of the photoluminescence (PL) intensity and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy have been performed concurrently on porous Si. A sharp reduction in the PL intensity is observed for annealing temperatures ≳300 °C and this coincides with desorption of hydrogen from the SiH2 surface species.…

Grafting of glycidyl methacrylate onto gelatin

M. Sivakumar、P. Rajalingam Ganga Radhakrishnan、H. Kothandaraman1991-11-20Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Gelatin was graft copolymerized with poly(glycidyl methacrylate) using potassium peroxydisulfate in aqueous medium. Effect of temperature, time, initiator, monomer, and backbone concentrations were studied. The percent grafting was found to increase initially and then decrease in all the cases except with var…

Mechanism of the reaction involving the formation of dioxane byproduct during the production of poly(ethylene terephthalate)

A. V. Popoola1991-11-20Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract The formation of certain low molecular weight by‐products during the esterification reaction between ethylene glycol and dimethyl terephthalate was investigated. The result obtained showed that the presence of incorporated diethylene glycol within the polymer led to the formation of low molecular weight side…

Preparation and characterization of maleimide‐terminated poly(arylene ether sulfone) oligomers of various molecular weights

Shijiu Jin、Albert F. Yee1991-11-20Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract A new variation in the bismaleimide (BMI) resin family, maleimide‐terminated poly(oxy‐1,4‐phenylene sulfonyl‐1,4‐phenylene) oligomers, has been synthesized. The preparation of oligomers ( n = 1–12) is described in this study. The structure of these oligomers is characterized by FT‐IR and NMR spectroscopy. The…

Founding fathers of light scattering and surface-enhanced Raman scattering

Milton Kerker1991-11-20Applied Optics

One can view our comprehension of surface-enhanced Raman scattering, particularly that by colloidal dispersions of metal sols, as the merging of two traditions in light-scattering theory and practice. One of these originated with Michael Faraday's work on brilliantly colored metal sols, which was taken up by Richard Z…

Eugen Rabkin、L.S. Shvindlerman、Boris B. Straumal1991-11-20International Journal of Modern Physics B

Recent theories of grain boundary structure have been reviewed briefly. The possibility of existence of the same variety of phase transitions on grain boundaries as that on the crystal external surface has been demonstrated. Recent experimental data and theoretical models concerning grain boundary phase transitions ar…

The lifetime of Eu2+fluorescence in CaF2:Eu2+crystals

T. Tsuboi、P. Silfsten1991-11-18Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

The lifetime of luminescence in CaF 2 :Eu 2+ crystals has been investigated in a temperature range 15-320 K using a streak camera. Unlike the cases of other Eu 2+ -doped crystals, an emission band with a peak at 425 nm was observed to have a lifetime which decreases with decreasing temperature. Such an unusual tempera…

A probabilistic mechanism hidden behind the universal power law for dielectric relaxation: general relaxation equation

Karina Weron1991-11-18Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

A new model for the explanation of the universal dielectric response law is proposed. It differs significantly from all previous work on the subject. The presented model is based on the assumption that individual dipoles and their environment do not remain independent during the process of relaxation. Therefore the ti…
