Hubert Jean-Ruel、Meng Gao、Michał Andrzej Kochman 等 8 位作者2013-10-13The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

The photoinduced ring-closing reaction in diarylethene, which serves as a model system for understanding reactive crossings through conical intersections, was directly observed with atomic resolution using femtosecond electron diffraction. Complementary ab initio calculations were also performed. Immediately following…

Effects of Catalyst Type and Reaction Parameters on One-Step Acrylation of Soybean Oil

Pei Zhang、Junna Xin、Jinwen Zhang2013-10-13ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering

Unlike the conventional synthesis of acrylated soybean oil (ASO) that usually involved several steps, a novel one-step reaction synthesis of ASO was introduced in this study. ASO was prepared directly from the addition reaction of soybean oil (SO) and acrylic acid (AA). Effects of catalyst type, reaction stoichiometry…

Higher Order Spin Noise Statistics

Fuxiang Li、Avadh Saxena、Darryl Smith 等 4 位作者2013-10-13arXiv

The optical spin noise spectroscopy (SNS) is a minimally invasive route towards obtaining dynamical information about electrons and atomic gases by measuring mesoscopic time-dependent spin fluctuations. Recent improvements of the sensitivity of SNS should make it possible to observe higher order spin correlators at th…

Resolution of a Conjecture in Nonlocal Strain-gradient Plasticity

Jordan Cotler、Felipe Hernández2013-10-12arXiv (Cornell University)

Strain-gradient theories of plasticity have been successful in modeling the behavior of complex materials. However, the traditional formulation of these theories lacks a material length scale, and is thus incapable of capturing experimentally observed size effects that play an important role in the behavior of nano st…

It's Alive! Spontaneous Motion of Shear Thickening Fluids Floating on the Air-Water Interface

Sunilkumar Khandavalli、Michael L. Donnell、Jonathan P. Rothstein2013-10-12arXiv (Cornell University)

In this fluid dynamics video, we show the spontaneous random motion of thin filaments of a shear-thickening colloidal dispersions floating on the surface of water. The fluid is a dispersion of fumed silica nanoparticles in a low molecular weight polypropylene glycol (PPG) solvent. No external field or force is applied…
