For the complete nuclear fuel cycle, the development of a process for the co-conversion of Pu-U nitrate mixed solutions to mixed oxide powder has been performed along the line of non-proliferation policy of nuclear materials. A new co-conversion process using a microwave heating method has been developed and successfu…
Abstract Reactions of Ni(CH3)2(bpy) (1), Ni(C2H5)2(bpy) (2) (bpy=2,2′-bipyridine), trans-Ni(CH3)2(triethylphosphine)2 (3), Ni(CH3)2(1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) (4), and Ni(CH3)2(1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane) (5) with alkyl or aryl halides, R′COY (Y=Cl, Br, OC6H5, OCOC6H5), and CS2 have been investigated. Th…
Heat conduction is considered in a semi-infinite solid subjected to a high step change in surface heat flux, such that melting occurs. A time-dependent relaxation model for the energy flux is assumed, leading to a non-Fourier, non-linear equation for the thermal field, which is solved under suitable conditions on the…
The dynamic structure factors of crystals with sublattices which are mutually incommensurate are examined. The sublattices may be individually ordered, but incommensurate, or only one may be ordered with an interpenetrating fluid of the second atomic species. At high frequencies there are two propagating longitudinal-…

Abstract Blepharida sacra (Weise) is one of many species of flea beetles that have remarkable jumping abilities. The energy for its prodigious leaps is evidently stored in a central scroll‐shaped organ inside the hind femur of this insect—the metafemoral spring. X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, and ana…
Summary On-going field scaling tests have provided a unique opportunity to study how strontium sulfate and calcium sulfate scales are formed in an oil-producing well. Results indicate that development of nucleation sites on tubing surfaces is the most critical step. Scale profiles within a wellbore are determined main…
Glycolysis of rigid polyurethane foams is an efficient process for chemical recycling of waste products into raw materials. Secondary reactions leading, to some extent, to formation of amines are also involved in the process. The choice of catalyst is an important factor in selecting the type of reaction as well as th…
A new Monte Carlo simulation including generation of secondary electrons has been performed to study ultimate resolution in electron beam lithography. With respect to the simulations of inelastic scattering process of the primary electrons we used Gryzinski’s excitation function for single electron excitation processe…
We found that silver, either as silver metal or silver chloride, exerted toxic effects on the smooth muscle of isolated cannulated hamster cheek pouch arterioles. Silver initially stimulated the smooth muscle, producing a marked vasoconstriction. The vessels then dilated back to control diameters. Once the arterioles…
In the Staphylococcus aureus strain harbouring the plasmid RPAL, the resistance to aminoglycoside antibiotics results from two inactivating reactions catalyzed by a 6'-N-aminoglycoside acetyltransferase and a 2"-O-amino-glycoside phosphotransferase. These enzymes are copurified with a constant ratio between the two ac…

Abstract The resistance and resistivity of Ketjenblack EC/silicone rubber compounds were studied as function of strain in constant strain rate experiments. Both strain and rate of strain affect the electrical resistivity of the compounds. Such effects are carbon black concentration dependent. Ketjenblack EC, a low str…
Films selected for anticipated reaction with atomic oxygen, namely carbon, silver, and osmium, were exposed during the Shuttle STS‐4 mission. A silver film 225 ± 5 nm thick was converted to a transparent blue‐green interference film 355 ± 5 nm thick. Both carbon and osmium films 10‐30 nm thick apparently formed volati…
In an effort to advance our understanding of the principles governing the structures of and the hydrogen bonding in alkylammonium hexachlorostannates(IV), (R n NH 4−n ) 2 SnCl 6 , we have determined the room-temperature crystal structures of (Me 2 NH 2 ) 2 SnCl 6 and (Me 3 NH) 2 SnCl 6 (variants of the antifluorite st…
Abstract Treatment of ketones with bis(trimethylsilyl) peroxide and Lewis acid such as SnCl4 or BF3·OEt2 in dichloromcthane at room temperature affords esters in fair to excellent yields. Jasmine lactone is synthesized from 2-[(Z)-2-pentenyl]cyclopentanone by means of Me3SiOOSiMe3–BF3·OEt2 system without any protectio…
Abstract Montmorillonite has a heterogeneous charge distribution, and it is important to determine whether constant potential edge sites or constant charge sites control metal adsorption. The pH dependence of metal adsorption provides insight into the adsorption mechanism as well as being an important variable that wi…
The thermal and electrical conductivities, fracture strength, swelling, and microstructure of sintered alpha‐phase Sic and siliconized reaction‐bonded Sic materials were studied before and after irradiation with reactor neutrons. The effects of helium gas on the properties were studied using boron enriched in ' O B to…
