Glass transition in self-organizing cellular patterns

Tomaso Aste、David Sherrington1999-09-28Journal of Physics A Mathematical and General

We have considered the dynamical evolution of cellular patterns controlled by a stochastic Glauber process determined by the deviations of local cell topology from that of a crystalline structure. Above a critical temperature evolution is towards a common equilibrium state from any initial configuration, but beneath t…

A chemically labeled cytotoxic agent: Two-photon fluorophore for optical tracking of cellular pathway in chemotherapy

Xiaopeng Wang、Linda J. Krebs、Mohammed Al-Nuri 等 9 位作者1999-09-28Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

Chemotherapy is commonly used in the treatment of cancers. However, the mechanism of action of many of these agents is not well understood. We present the synthesis of a two-photon fluorophore (C625) and its biological application when chemically linked to a chemotherapeutic agent (AN-152). By using two-photon laser-s…

Redox Properties of Nanocrystalline Cu-Doped Cerium Oxide Studied by Isothermal Gravimetric Analysis and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy

Andreas Tschöpe、Michel L. Trudeau、Jackie Y. Ying1999-09-28The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Nanostructured CeO 2 - x and Cu 0.15 Ce 0.85 O 2 - x were synthesized by high-pressure magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction was used for phase analysis and grain size characterization. The structural analysis indicated that Cu was highly dispersed, which could be explained by surface segregation on cerium oxide nan…

Structural Development and Adhesion of Acrylic ABA Triblock Copolymer Gels

Cynthia M. Flanigan、Alfred J. Crosby、Kenneth R. Shull1999-09-28Macromolecules

Relationships between the structure, properties, and processing techniques of model polymer gels are investigated. The mechanical properties of the gels are determined by a thermally reversible aggregation of the syndiotactic PMMA end blocks of an acrylic triblock copolymer, which is diluted with a selective solvent f…

Probing the Location of the Terminal Groups of Dendrimers in Dilute Solution

Andreas Topp、Barry J. Bauer、June W. Klimash 等 6 位作者1999-09-28Macromolecules

The spatial distribution of the terminal groups of poly(amido amine) dendrimers have been determined experimentally by small-angle neutron scattering with deuterium labeling and scattering contrast variation. The radius of gyration of deuterated terminal units of generation 7 dendrimers is 39.3 ± 1.0 Å. This is signif…

Effect of Solvent Quality on the Molecular Dimensions of PAMAM Dendrimers

Andreas Topp、Barry J. Bauer、Donald A. Tomalia 等 4 位作者1999-09-28Macromolecules

The average dimensions of poly(amido amine) (PAMAM) dendrimers of generations G5 and G8 are studied by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) as a function of solvents of differing quality, the composition of mixtures of a good solvent and a nonsolvent, and temperature. The radius of gyration, R g, of the G8 dendrimer…

Single-Step Syngas-to-Dimethyl Ether Processes for Optimal Productivity, Minimal Emissions, and Natural Gas-Derived Syngas

Xiaoxi Peng、A. W. Wang、B.A. Toseland 等 4 位作者1999-09-28Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research

Process schemes for single-step syngas-to-dimethyl ether (DME) were developed in two stages: (1) the performance of the syngas-to-DME reactor was optimized with respect to the feed gas composition and (2) the optimal reactor feed gas system was integrated with synthesis gas generators. It was shown that the reactor pe…

Understanding of the Effect of Al Substitution on the Hydrothermal Stability of MCM-41

Shuifa Shen、Sibudjing Kawi1999-09-28The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

The effect of Al substitution on the hydrothermal stability of Si−Al−MCM-41 (Si/Al = 50) under different treatment conditions has been investigated in detail, and a fundamental understanding is discussed based on its effect on both geometrical and chemical properties of MCM-41. Compared with Si−MCM-41, the small amoun…
