Nematic susceptibility of hole- and electron-doped BaFe2As2 iron-based superconductors

A. E. Böhmer、P. Burger、F. Hardy 等 9 位作者2013-05-15arXiv (Cornell University)

The nematic susceptibility of hole-doped Ba1-xKxFe2As2 and electron-doped Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 iron-based superconductors is obtained from measurements of the elastic shear modulus using a three-point bending setup in a capacitance dilatometer. Nematic fluctuations, although weakened by doping, extend over the whole super…

The Dependence of Alloy Composition of InGaAs Inserts in GaAs\n Nanopillars on Selective-Area Pattern Geometry

Joshua Shapiro、Adam C. Scofield、Andrew Lin 等 6 位作者2013-05-15arXiv (Cornell University)

GaAs nanopillars with 150 nm - 200 nm long axial InGaAs inserts are grown by\nMOCVD via catalyst-free selective-area-epitaxy (SAE). The alloy composition of\nthe InGaAs region, as determined by room-temperature photoluminescence (PL),\ndepends critically on the pitch and diameter of the selective-area pattern\ngeometr…

Perimeter-minimizing Tilings by Convex and Non-convex Pentagons

Whan Ghang、Zane Martin、Steven Waruhiu2013-05-15arXiv (Cornell University)

We study the presumably unnecessary convexity hypothesis in the theorem of Chung et al. [CFS] on perimeter-minimizing planar tilings by convex pentagons. We prove that the theorem holds without the convexity hypothesis in certain special cases, and we offer direction for future research.

Nanoscale order in the frustrated mixed conductor La$_{5.4}WO$_{12-\delta}$

Tobias Scherb、Simon A. J. Kimber、Christiane Stephan 等 11 位作者2013-05-15arXiv (Cornell University)

This article reports a comprehensive investigation of the average and local structure of La5.6WO12 delta, which has excellent mixed proton, electron and oxide ion conduction suitable for device applications. Synchrotron X ray and neutron powder diffraction show that a cubic fluorite supercell describes the average str…

Here be Dragons: The Unexplored Continents of the CMSSM

Timothy Cohen、USDOE Office of Science (SC)、Jay G. Wacker2013-05-15OpenAlex

The Higgs boson mass and the abundance of dark matter constrain the CMSSM/mSUGRA supersymmetry breaking inputs. A complete map of the CMSSM that is consistent with these two measured quantities is provided. Various “continents,” consisting of non-excluded models, can be organized by their dark mat ter dynamics. The fo…

Mesoscale computational prediction and quantification of thermomechanical ignition behavior of polymer-bonded explosives (PBXs)

Ananda Barua2013-05-15SMARTech Repository (Georgia Institute of Technology)

This research aims at understanding the conditions that lead to reaction initiation of polymer-bonded explosives (PBXs) as they undergo mechanical and thermal processes subsequent to impact. To analyze this issue, a cohesive finite element method (CFEM) based finite deformation framework is developed and used to quant…

Hierarchically-coupled hidden Markov models for learning kinetic rates from single-molecule data

Jan-Willem van de Meent、Jonathan E. Bronson、Frank Wood 等 5 位作者2013-05-15arXiv (Cornell University)

We address the problem of analyzing sets of noisy time-varying signals that all report on the same process but confound straightforward analyses due to complex inter-signal heterogeneities and measurement artifacts. In particular we consider single-molecule experiments which indirectly measure the distinct steps in a…

Phonon-mediated Superconductivity in Silicene

Wenhui Wan、Yanfeng Ge、Fan Yang 等 4 位作者2013-05-15arXiv (Cornell University)

We predict that electron-doped silicene is a good two-dimensional electron-phonon superconductor under biaxial tensile strain by first-principles calculations within rigid band approximation. Superconductivity transition temperature of electron-doped silicene can be increased to be above 10 K by 5% tensile strain. Ban…
