Abstract An unexpected phenomenon named as critical effect of polymer bumps in PS‐VA LCD was found and studied. It shows that only if the bumps amount reaches sufficient high they can reduce the LCD optical rising time. It suggests a safe RM content value in LC mixtures when producing PS‐VA LCD.
