Efficient Anchoring of Silver Nanoparticles on N‐Doped Carbon Nanotubes

Adalberto Zamudio‐Ojeda、Ana Laura Elías、Julio A. Rodríguez‐Manzo 等 11 位作者2006-01-30Small

Getting on the tube: A single-step method to attach silver nanoparticles on the surfaces of nitrogen-doped multi-walled carbon nanotubes is described (as depicted in the picture). Ag nanoparticles (2–10 nm diameter) are synthesized by reduction of a Ag salt, and then mixed with the nanotubes in a technique that does n…

Variable liquid crystal pretilt angles by nanostructured surfaces

Fion Sze Yan Yeung、J. Ho、Y. W. Li 等 7 位作者2006-01-30Applied Physics Letters

Variable liquid crystal pretilt angles of any value from 0 to 90° can be obtained by using a nanostructured alignment layer. This layer is robust and reliable. The pretilt angles obtained are stable against high storage and operating temperatures, and have strong anchoring energies.

Magnetic Moment Softening and Domain Wall Resistance in Ni Nanowires

J. D. Burton、R. F. Sabirianov、S. S. Jaswal 等 5 位作者2006-01-30arXiv

Magnetic moments in atomic scale domain walls formed in nanoconstrictions and nanowires are softened which affects dramatically the domain wall resistance. We perform ab initio calculations of the electronic structure and conductance of atomic-size Ni nanowires with domain walls only a few atomic lattice constants wid…

Magnetism of two-dimensional defects in Pd: stacking faults, twin boundaries and surfaces

Simone S. Alexandre、Eduardo Anglada、Jose M. Soler 等 4 位作者2006-01-30arXiv

Careful first-principles density functional calculations reveal the importance of hexagonal versus cubic stacking of closed packed planes of Pd as far as local magnetic properties are concerned. We find that, contrary to the stable face centered cubic phase, which is paramagnetic, the hexagonal close-packed phase of P…

Iron self-diffusion in FeZr/$^{57}$FeZr multilayers measured by neutron reflectometry: Effect of applied compressive stress

Mukul Gupta、Ajay Gupta、Sujoy Chakravarty 等 5 位作者2006-01-30arXiv

Iron self-diffusion in nano-composite FeZr alloy has been investigated using neutron reflectometry technique as a function of applied compressive stress. A composite target of (Fe+Zr) and (57Fe+Zr) was alternatively sputtered to deposit chemically homogeneous multilayer (CHM) structure, [Fe75Zr25/57Fe75Zr25]10. The mu…

Multiple transfer of angular momentum quanta from a spin-polarized hole to magnetic ions in ZnMnSe/ZnBeSe quantum wells

A. V. Akimov、A. V. Scherbakov、D. R. Yakovlev 等 7 位作者2006-01-30arXiv

The magnetization kinetics in (Zn,Mn)Se/(Zn,Be)Se quantum wells has been studied on a ps-time scale after pulsed laser excitation. The magnetization induced by an external magnetic field is reduced by up to 30% during ~100 ps due to spin and energy transfer from photocarriers to Mn spin system. The giant Zeeman splitt…

Growth of high quality large area MgB2 thin films by reactive evaporation

Brian H. Moeckly、Ward S. Ruby2006-01-30arXiv

We report a new in-situ reactive deposition thin film growth technique for the production of MgB2 thin films which offers several advantages over all existing methods and is the first deposition method to enable the production of high-quality MgB2 films for real-world applications. We have used this growth method, whi…

Laser Microscopy of Tunneling Magnetoresistance in Manganite Grain-Boundary Junctions

M. Wagenknecht、H. Eitel、T. Nachtrab 等 7 位作者2006-01-30Physical Review Letters

Using low-temperature scanning laser microscopy we directly image electric transport in a magnetoresistive element, a manganite thin film intersected by a grain boundary (GB). Imaging at variable temperature allows reconstruction and comparison of the local resistance versus temperature for both the manganite film and…

Polymorphism of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients

Piotr Karpiński2006-01-30Chemical Engineering & Technology

Abstract Different polymorphs of the same active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) display distinct physical properties, such as melting point, solubility, dissolution rate, hygroscopicity, or stability. The ability to successfully produce and reproduce specific stable polymorphs is intricately correlated with the effic…

Orbital and Bonding Anisotropy in a Half-FilledGaFeO3Magnetoelectric Ferrimagnet

J.-Y. Kim、T. Y. Koo、Jae‐Hoon Park2006-01-30Physical Review Letters

We investigated the orbital anisotropy of GaFeO3 using the Fe L2,3-edge x-ray magnetic circular dichroism and the polarization dependent O K-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy. We found that the system shows a considerably large orbital momentum and anisotropic Fe-O bonding, which are unexpected in a half-filled d5 sy…

Tetrahedral Zinc Blende Tin Sulfide Nano‐ and Microcrystals

Eric C. Greyson、Jeremy Barton、Teri W. Odom2006-01-30Small

Entering a new phase: Tin sulfide (SnS) nano- and microcrystals were synthesized by a seedless, solution procedure. Three-dimensional tetrahedral particles crystallized in the zinc blende (ZB) structure (see SEM image) while two-dimensional platelike particles crystallized in the orthorhombic phase. The optical proper…

Variational band theory of vibronic polarons in crystals. I. Preamble

M. Georgiev2006-01-30arXiv

We review the basic theoretical background for working out a variational band solution for vibronic polarons in crystals. It is based on the Lee-Low-Pines proposal as extended by Thomas et al. for describing Jahn-Teller polarons along a linear chain of atoms. The variational properties of antiadiabatic itinerant polar…

Fe implanted ferromagnetic ZnO

К. Potzger、Shengqiang Zhou、H. Reuther 等 11 位作者2006-01-30Applied Physics Letters

Room-temperature ferromagnetism has been induced within ZnO single crystals by implant doping with Fe ions. For an implantation temperature of 623 K and an ion fluence of 4×1016cm−2, very tiny Fe particles, formed inside the host matrix, are responsible for the ferromagnetic properties. They were identified using sync…
