Mussel- and Diatom-Inspired Micropattern Generation of Silica on a Solid Substrate

Jungkyu K. Lee、Sung Min Kang2013-02-20Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society

Biosilicification in diatoms1 and sponges2 potentially pro-mises physiological, mild reaction conditions for controlling silica structures at the nanometer scale. Since Sumper et al. had isolated catalytic peptides (i.e., silaffins) from diatoms,3 a number of polymers bearing tertiary amine or ammonium groups have bee…

A pair of covalently linked molecular dyads is described in which two disparate boron dipyrromethene dyes are separated by a tolane-like spacer. Efficient electronic energy transfer (EET) occurs across the dyad; the mechanism involves important contributions from both Förster-type coulombic interactions and Dexter-typ…

The effect of an arc energy absorber installed in a wind turbine switch unit has been investigated by computational fluid dynamics simulations based on results of an internal arc test. The absorber is assembled from several layers of perforated plates. The compact switch unit consists of an SF6insulated switch tank, a…

Development of a soil abrasion test and analysis of impact of soil properties on tool wear for soft-ground mechanized tunneling

Ehsan Alavi Gharahbagh2013-02-20OpenAlex

Primary and secondary wear in soft-ground tunneling using various types of shields has a major impact on machine operation, utilization, and tunneling costs. Wear occurs due to interaction between abrasive soils and cutters, as well as other components of the machine which come into contact with the muck. However, the…

Shunsuke Suzuki、Hisashi Shimakage、Akira Kawakami 等 5 位作者2013-02-20IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity

We have studied$\hbox{Bi}_{2}\hbox{Sr}_{2}\hbox{CaCu}_{2}\hbox{O}_{8 + \delta}$(Bi-2212) thin films fabrication by a metal organic decomposition method. When the Bi-2212 thin films were prepared on c-cut sapphire substrates, the maximum critical temperature$(T_{\rm C})$was 25 K by 820$^{\circ}\hbox{C}$air annealing in…

Investigation of the Gate Bias Stress Instability in ZnO Thin Film Transistors by Low-Frequency Noise Analysis

Kwang‐Seok Jeong、Ho‐Jin Yun、Yu-Mi Kim 等 8 位作者2013-02-20Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

To investigate the electrical instability mechanism under the application of gate bias stress and relaxation, the 1/f noise spectra of two different ZnO thin-film transistors (TFTs) were analyzed. In terms of gate bias dependence (S IDS/I DS), both devices followed a mobility fluctuation model based on the traps in th…

Analysis of rate-dependent tensile properties of polypropylene fibres used in thermally bonded nonwovens

Barış Sabuncuoğlu、Emrah Demirci、Memiş Acar 等 4 位作者2013-02-20Journal of the Textile Institute

The stress–strain behaviour of polypropylene fibres is evaluated for various tensile strain rates. Fibre samples are extracted from a thermally bonded nonwoven and fixed in a low-load tensile test machine. A methodology is introduced to implement a constant true strain rate at high strain tests for conventional tensil…

Carbon nanofiber aerogels can be fabricated on a large scale by using a low-cost biomass, bacterial cellulose, as a precursor, which can be produced industrially in a microbial fermentation process (see picture). As described by S. H. Yu and co-workers in their Communication on page 2925 ff., the aerogels are ultralig…

Simulation of Elasto-plastic Deformations in Composites by Flow Rules.

Vahid Monfared2013-02-20Indian Journal of Science and Technology

In this paper, a novel model is proposed to predict stress behavior in the fibrous polymer composites under an applied tensile axial loading. Tangential stress is obtained by simulating between polymeric matrix flow (polyester) and fluid flow. In the other words, creep behavior of the petrochemical material or polymer…

Pore Narrowing of Mesoporous Silica Materials

Frederik Goethals、Elisabeth Levrau、Els De Canck 等 7 位作者2013-02-20Materials

To use mesoporous silicas as low-k materials, the pore entrances must be really small to avoid diffusion of metals that can increase the dielectric constant of the low-k dielectric. In this paper we present a new method to narrow the pores of mesoporous materials through grafting of a cyclic-bridged organosilane precu…
