Does Crystal Tilt Enhance the Electron Interaction?

D. Van Dyck、Regina Bokel、H.W. Zandbergen1998-08-01Microscopy and Microanalysis

: We have observed that a slight crystal tilt away from the zone axis paradoxically decreases the dynamical extinction length, as if the electron-crystal interaction increases. This effect disappears at larger tilt angles. Using the simplified channeling theory, this behavior is explained.

The thermonuclear burn-up in deuterium - tritium mixtures and hydrides of light elements

Alexei M. Frolov1998-08-01Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion

The thermonuclear burn-up in deuterium - tritium (DT) mixtures with various D: T ratios is considered. It is shown that the use of small amounts of tritium simplifies the thermonuclear burn-up in the dense deuterium significantly. The general dependence of the critical burn-up parameter upon the D: T ratio, temperatur…

Selection of suitable sewing needle using machine learning techniques

Zoran Stjepanović、Helena Strah1998-08-01International Journal of Clothing Science and Technology

Selection of suitable sewing needle is one of the most important parameters for ensuring an effective and fault‐free sewing process. This task requires good knowledge of basic characteristics of a sewing needle, i.e. needle type, point shape and needle fineness. Also good knowledge of sewing materials is required. The…

Role of hydrogen and hydroxyl ion in cathodic disbondment

N. Kamalanand、Ganesa Gopalakrishnan、Sivalinga Govinda Ponnambalam 等 8 位作者1998-08-01Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials

The most economical way of protecting pipelines is through the application of organic coatings and wrappings. To make the protection foolproof at holidays and pores, cathodic protection is also applied. At coating holidays, the pipelines act as the cathode generating hydroxyl ion and hydrogen electrochemically. Extens…

Synthesis and properties of Ge-Sb-S: NdCl3 glasses

Božena Frumarová、Petr Němec、M. Frumar 等 4 位作者1998-08-01Semiconductors

High purity (GeS2)8−x (Sb2S3)20(NdCl3)x x=0, 0.01, 0.1, 0.5, glasses were prepared and their optical properties determined. The Ge-Sb-S system dissolves up to 0.5 mol.% of NdCl3 and still forms stable glasses. The structure of these glasses is formed by interconnected GeS4 tetrahedra and SbS3 pyramids as it follows fr…

Uniform Macroporous Ceramics and Plastics by Emulsion Templating

Arnout Imhof、David J. Pine1998-08-01Chemical Engineering & Technology

Macroporous materials with highly uniform pores in the range 50 nm to 20 μm and of any desired porosity up to 90% can be produced using the method introduced here—emulsion templating. The Figure shows an extremely porous poly(acrylamide) gel, one of the many types of materials that can be synthesized using this versat…

A method of evaluating limestone reactivity with SO2 under fluidized bed combustion conditions

Tobias Mattisson、Anders Lyngfelt1998-08-01The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering

Abstract The reactivity of limestone with sulphur dioxide has been evaluated during conditions similar to those existing in a fluidized bed combustor using a fixed‐bed quartz reactor. The reactivity of up to 11 particle sizes of 2 limestones were evaluated, and an exponential decay function was found to best describe…

Capillary filling of nematic liquid crystals

Xiang‐Dong Mi、Deng‐Ke Yang1998-08-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

We studied the orientation of nematic liquid crystals when they were being filled into cells by capillary action. We found that, in the flow front, the liquid crystal was always aligned along the flow direction. Far behind the flow front, the orientation of the liquid crystal depended on the anchoring direction of the…

Magnetic Properties of Bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)copper(II) Complex with 5-Bromo-1,3-phenylenebis(N-tert-butyl-aminoxyl) Having Polymeric Chain Structure

Katsuya Inoue、Fumiyasu Iwahori、Hiizu Iwamura1998-08-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract Bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)copper(II) Cu(hfac)2(=M) reacts with 5-bromo-1,3-phenylenebis(N-tert-butylaminoxyl) 1 to yield a complex formula [M3·12]. The X-ray crystal structure shows that it crystallizes in the space group P1, with a = 12.469(2) Å, b = 15.278(2) Å, c = 11.602(2) Å, α = 104.59(1)°, β = 111.…

IFO: a Program for Image-Reconstruction-Type Calculation of Atomic Distribution Functions for Disordered Materials

Valeri Petkov、Radostin Danev1998-08-01Journal of Applied Crystallography

IFO is a newly developed computer program which transforms experimental structure factors for disordered materials to atomic distribution functions by employing an image-reconstruction-type technique. The transformation is carried out through a Monte Carlo search for an atomic distribution function which is a smooth,…

Moisture Uptake in Organic Coatings Monitored with EIS

L. De Rosa、Tullio Monetta、Francesco Bellucci1998-08-01Materials science forum

Although EIS is widely applied as a technique for monitoring the degradation of polymeric coatings when exposed to acqueous environments, a rigourous theoretical framework has not yet been fully developed. In this paper a mathematical model relating the kinetics of moisture uptake to the changes in the dielectric prop…

Effect of post‐curing on the mechanical properties of carbonized phenolic resins

Tse‐Hao Ko、T.P. Ma1998-08-01Polymer Composites

Abstract After curing, phenol‐formaldehyde resins were post‐cured at 160°C, 230°C, and 300°C in air for several hours, and then those post‐cured samples were carbonized at 1000°C. The effect of post‐curing on the physical properties and microstructure of the carbonized phenolic resin is reported in this article. The p…

UV-light induced crosslinking reaction of cinnamate natural rubbers: Effect of the spacer length, counter-ion nature, and content

Leila L. Y. Visconte、Cristina T. Andrade、Chiaki Azuma1998-08-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Maleated natural rubber was modified by introducing different contents of cinnamate groups, separated from the main chain by —(CH2)n— spacers (n = 2 to 6). Residual carboxylic acid groups were neutralized as Li, Na, and K-salts. The kinetic behavior of these materials towards ultraviolet-induced crosslinking reaction…

An advection–dispersion–reaction model of bauxite formation

Josep M. Soler、Antonio C. Lasaga1998-08-01Journal of Hydrology

The formation of bauxite from a granitic protolith, at 25°C, has been simulated using a modified version of the 1DREACT software for one-dimensional reactive transport, which uses a kinetic approach to describe the mineral dissolution and precipitation reactions. The rate laws describing these reactions incorporate th…
