Abstract Y-doped alumina was sintered at 1500°C for 10 h under ultra-clean experimental conditions without experiencing any abnormal grain growth. The yttrium was fairly homogeneously distributed at the grain boundaries, with a mean value of Y = 5.5 at nm −2 . The Y–Al–O precipitates in the clean, Y 2 O 3 -doped alumi…

Due to their very high thermal conductivity carbon nanotubes have been found to be an excellent material for thermal management. Experiments have shown that the heaters coated with carbon nanotubes increase the heat transfer by as much as 60%. Also when nanotubes are used as filler materials in composites, they tend t…

The formation of notch-tip hydrides in CANDU® Zr-2.5Nb pressure tubes can significantly reduce their resistance to fracture, particularly during overload conditions. This paper outlines recent high energy X-ray diffraction measurements of notch tip strain fields in Zr-2.5Nb specimens, during both hydride growth and ov…

TiO2 deposition-methods are versatile and are expected to be more simple and easy, however, in recent years the industrial photocatalytic products have been developed enormously. In this work, photocatalytic TiO2 micro-particles are deposited using the atmospheric pressure plasma jet device. Here, deposition-method is…

The adhesion between zinc borate-containing rubber compounds and brass-plated steel cords was studied to understand the role of zinc borate as an adhesion promoter. No improvement in adhesion after cure was shown with loading of zinc borate in the range 0.5–2 phr, while enhancement of adhesion retention after humidity…

To evaluate strength and service life of engineering objects, a model of a damaged medium consisting of three interconnected parts (relations determining the elastoplastic behavior of the material, kinetic equations of damage accumulation, and a strength criterion of the damaged material) is developed. In order to ass…

Ultraviolet (UV) irradiated tests with four kinds of fluence were carried out on PEEK films. After UV irradiation tests, tensile tests were conducted to clarify the effect of UV on mechanical properties. As a result, the UV fluence more than 8×10^2J/cm^2 decreased elongation at break of PEEK drastically. Surface obser…
