New Method to Determine Elastic Constants of Nematic Liquid Crystal From C-V Curve

Taro Uchida、Y. Takahashi1981-01-01Molecular crystals and liquid crystals

It is found theoretically and experimentally that a linear relationship between capacitance and reciprocal voltage of a nematic liquid crystal cell of homogeneous alignment. From this slope, the ratio of elastic constants K33/K11 can be acculatly obtained.

Israël Epelboin、C. Gabrielli、М. Кеддам 等 4 位作者1981-01-01OpenAlex

The general features of the a-c impedance at a metal-electrolyte interface as a function of frequency are depicted, and recently developed measurement techniques are described. It is established that at low and very low frequencies, down to the millihertz domain, relaxation phenomena are found in those cases where the…

M.H. Mintz、S. Vaknin、S. Biderman 等 4 位作者1981-01-01Journal of Applied Physics

The influence of partial substitutions of iron in TiFe by some other 3-d transition metals on the hydrogenation characteristics of the corresponding ternary (pseudo-binary) TiFexM1−x(M=Cr, Mn, Co, Ni; 0.5≲x≲1) compounds was systematically investigated. Such substitutions result in two main effects:(i) stabilization of…

Tinh Nguyen、Eugene Zavarin、Edward M. Barrall1981-01-01Journal of macromolecular science. Part C, Reviews in macromolecular chemistry and physics/Journal of macromolecular science. Reviews in macromolecular chemistry and physics

Thermal analysis is a group of techniques in which a physical property of a substance is measured as a function of temperature while the substance is subjected to a controlled temperature program. The output of thermal analysis represents data predominantly in the form of curves characteristic for a particular chemica…

Domains, domain walls and the coercive field of amorphous ferromagnets

H. Kronmüller、B. Gröger1981-01-01Journal de physique

Magnetic properties of the hysteresis loop of magnetostrictive amorphous ferromagnetic alloys are predominantly determined by the magnetoelastic coupling energy between the spontaneous magnetization and internal stresses. Domain structures as well as the pinning of domain walls are governed by long-range and short-ran…

The Fracture of Cu–Al–Ni Shape Memory Alloy

Shuichi Miyazaki、Kazuhiro Otsuka、Hiroshi Sakamoto 等 4 位作者1981-01-01Transactions of the Japan Institute of Metals

The initiation and propagation of cracks during both quenching and deformation in polycrystalline Cu–Al–Ni alloys have been investigated under various conditions. The results obtained are summarized as follows; (1) Quenching-cracks may be avoided by choosing the temperature of quenching media close to or below the Ms…

Extraction of Aluminum from Aluminum‐Organic Matter Complexes

W. L. Hargrove、G. W. Thomas1981-01-01Soil Science Society of America Journal

Abstract The objective of this study was to compare extractabilities of Al from Al‐treated peats using KCl, CuCl 2 , and HCl to the total Al content determined after dry ashing. Results showed that Al extracted by CuCl 2 or HCl correlated well with the total amount of Al present in the system. On the other hand, 1 N K…

Luminescence of porphyrins and metalloporphyrins. Part 2.—Copper(II), chromium(III), manganese(III), iron(II) and iron(III) porphyrins

Anthony Harriman1981-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Faraday Transactions 1 Physical Chemistry in Condensed Phases

The absorption spectra of paramagnetic transition metal porphyrins consist of (ππ*), charge-transfer and tripmultiplet transitions. The tripmultiplet states result from interaction between the metal d-orbitals and the porphyrin (ππ*) excited triplet states. For CuIITPP, luminescence occurs from the lowest energy tripq…

Polypeptide Liquid Crystals: A Deuterium NMR Study

K. Czarniecka、Edward T. Samulski1981-01-01Molecular crystals and liquid crystals

In polypeptide liquid crystals deuterium NMR spectra of labeled guest molecules and labeled Polybenzylglutamate exhibit a characteristic doubling (anisochronism) of the quadrupolar splittings of enantiotopic deuterons. The anisochronism is a reflection of local chirality. For achiral guests the chirality is acquired i…
