数千個以上の原子や分子から構成されるクラスターイオン照射法がX線光電子分光法(XPS)での高分子材料の深さ方向分析法として注目が集まっている.クラスターイオンエッチング法は試料損傷を軽減できる低エネルギー照射法である.著者らは帯電液滴巨大水クラスターイオンである帯電液滴をXPSと組み合わせ,高分子材料の深さ方向分析を試みた.その結果,高分子材料の化学組成・結合状態への損傷が著しく軽減し,高分子材料に対するXPSの深さ方向分析に対し有効であることが判明した.
