Sb-S binary glass samples with a batch composition of Sb33.3S66.7 could be obtained by a melt-quenching method using a vacuum-sealed silica ampoule. The glass transition temperature of Sb33.3S66.7 glass was 163°C. Two series of Ge-Sb-S ternary glasses, namely GeS2-SbS1.5 and GeS2-SbS2 were also prepared. The Ge-Sb-S g…
Abstract Nanostructured materials win big scientific interest and increasingly economic meaning through their specific exceptional properties. Precursors that were compacted by pressing and sintering are normally used preparation of materials. In present work, the influence of mechanical activation by grinding on the…
Hydrothermal synthesis has allowed us to isolate and characterize three new inorganic–organic hybrid materials, the compounds [Cu2(phen)2(H2O)2(H2PO4)2](NO3)2·2H2O (1), [(Cu2bipy2)2(V4O9)(PO4)2(HPO4)(H2P2O7)]n·nH2O (2) and [Cu2(dpa)2(V2P2O12)]n, (4), which have been magneto-structurally characterized. In addition, the…
Three-dimensional microstructures made of Ni metal or acrylic resin were fabricated by five sequential processes: porous anodic oxide film formation, pore sealing, laser irradiation, Ni electroplating or electrophoretic deposition of acrylic resin, and removal of the aluminum substrate and anodic oxide films. Cylindri…
Impedance spectra (IS) of a polycrystalline sample with macroscopic dimensions are analyzed based on the brick layer model with parallel and series grain boundaries (gb). The gb width is taken as 0.5 nm, in accordance with the classical Fisher model of gb diffusion. Three mean grain size values of 500, 50, and 5 nm ar…
The Isothermal Dendritic Growth Experiment constituted a series of three NASA-supported microgravity experiments (USMP-2, -3, and -4), which flew aboard the space shuttle Columbia. These space flight experiments grew and recorded dendrites in the absence of gravity-induced convective heat transfer. USMP-4, for the fir…
The near-net-shape casting technology is an important process unattainable with traditional die-making processes. The key of this process is how to guarantee the safety application of dies. In this paper, the microstructures and thermal fatigue (TF) behavior of Cr-Ni-Mo hot work die steel modified by rare earth (RE) w…
Reaction fronts in the O2 + H2 reaction on a Rh(110) surface predosed with potassium have been shown to be associated with a redistribution of the potassium from the oxygen freed to the still oxygen covered parts of the surface. As stable final state a stationary pattern results under reaction conditions formed by K +…
The optical spectra of blue Yb-garnet single crystals have been studied in the range of 200 to 1200 nm. The spectra exhibit absorption bands due to Yb2+ and Yb3+ ions including 4f–4f transitions on Yb3+ as well as 4f–5d transitions on Yb2+ ions, and a band due to Yb2+–Yb3+ intervalence charge-transfer (IVCT) responsib…
A simple synthetic route with a direct self-assembling process was developed to synthesize sulfide semiconductor capped metal composite nanoparticles. Gold nanoparticles have been encapsulated with PbS nanocrystals to form spherical composite nanoparticles with core–shell structure. Stable Au@PbS composite colloids we…
Several compounds of the NaMn(Fe 1-x In x ) 2 (PO 4 ) 3 solid solution were synthesized by solid state reaction in air; pure alluaudite-like compounds were obtained for x = 0.00 to 1.00. X-ray Rietveld refinements indicate the presence of Na + at the A1 and A2’ sites, Mn 2+ at the M1 site, and Fe 2+ , Fe 3+ , and In 3…
The primary photoinduced charge separation and recombination processes occurring in a dinuclear Ru(II) complex capable to perform multielectron storage upon light excitation have been studied in different solvents: the charge-separated state obtained in dichloromethane is, to the best of our knowledge, the longest-liv…
Abstract Catalytic control of electron-transfer processes is described for a number of photoinduced and thermal electron-transfer reactions, including back electron transfer in the charge-separated state of artificial photosynthetic compounds. The intermolecular and intramolecular electron-transfer processes are accel…
The corrosion of electrogalvanized steel exposed to 0.1M NaCl was studied using the SVET. Situations of localized corrosion, cathodic protection and corrosion protection due to surface pre-treatment were analyzed, putting in evidence the possibilities of the technique.
The complexes [Bi{Se2CN(C2H5)2}3], [Bi{Se2CN(C4H9)2}3], [Bi{Se2CN(CH3)(C4H9)}3] and [Bi{Se2CN(CH3)(C6H13)}3] have been synthesized and characterized structurally using IR, 1H and 13C NMR. In addition, the crystal structure of [Bi{Se2CN(C4H9)2}3] was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, showing the bismuth c…
This is the third part in our current series of research papers featuring structure-property relationships in natural cellulosic fibres focussing on flax fibre. The capacity of fibres to remove different types of oil from sea water and oil baths has been related to the chemical composition and surface properties of th…
The formation of phosphates of the lighter lanthanides (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb and Dy) by reaction with alkali metal phosphates has been studied in a LiCl–KCl eutectic melt between 450 and 650 °C and in a NaCl–KCl equimolar melt at 750 °C and under an inert atmosphere. Alkali metal ortho-, meta- and pyrop…
The use of discotic nematic liquid crystals instead of calamitic nematic liquid crystals to improve the viewing angle of a liquid crystal display device has recently been reported. Compared to the large number of calamitic molecules showing nematic phase at room temperature, the number of disk-shaped molecules showing…
Quantitative structural analysis by conventional X-ray diffraction and anomalous X-ray scattering coupled with the reverse Monte-Carlo simulation technique has been carried out, in order to characterize the atomicscale structure of rust formed on the surface of Fe, Fe-2 %Cr, Fe-3 %Ni and Fe-1.6 %Cu alloys and a weathe…
