Wild Conformational Dynamics of DHA Might Save Energy by Sealing Stretch- Induced Defects as Fast as They Occur in Membranes

Raymond C. Valentine、David L. Valentine2012-10-11OpenAlex

The remarkable conformational dynamics of DHA are full of surprises and in this chapter we describe a new dimension involving membranes routinely subjected to stretching and bending. Numerous cells and their membranes in the human body are subjected to repeated cycles of stretching often induced by mechanical stress.…

SHG/2PF microscopy of single and multi-layer graphene

Alexander Klekachev、Inge Asselberghs、Cedric Huyghebaert 等 9 位作者2012-10-11OpenAlex

Since the discovery of graphene in 2004 by Novoselov and Geim, a lot of research emphasis has been directed towards its characterization. Most of the important scientific breakthroughs have been obtained on exfoliated graphene (produced via the well known ‘scotch tape’ method), nowadays, different synthetic routes hav…

Adsorption Study of SF₆, H₂ And N₂ Over 13x Molecular Sieve

Savannah River Site (SRS), Aiken, SC (United States)、Steve Xiao、USDOE 等 7 位作者2012-10-11OpenAlex

This is a short study on SF₆, H₂ and N₂ adsorption over 13X Molecular Sieve. It is confirmed that 13X can be used to remove SF₆. At cryogenic temperature, 13X adsorbs significant amount of H₂ which can be purged out with He or He with N₂ doses. The N₂ adsorption was not affected with preadsorbed H₂.

Electron Beam Artifacts in Liquid-Cell Electron Microscopy

Joseph M. Grogan、Frances M. Ross、Haim H. Bau2012-10-11arXiv (Cornell University)

Bubbles may form when imaging liquids with in situ liquid-cell electron microscopy. Fluid dynamics videos show beam-induced bubble nucleation and growth. By examining the bubble formation and growth process, we hope to gain a better understanding of interactions between the electron beam and liquids.

The first jamming crossover: geometric and mechanical features

Massimo Pica Ciamarra、Peter Sollich2012-10-11arXiv (Cornell University)

The jamming transition characterizes athermal systems of particles interacting via finite range repulsive potentials, and occurs on increasing the density when particles cannot avoid making contacts with those of their first coordination shell. We have recently shown [M. Pica Ciamarra and P. Sollich, arXiv:1209.3334]…
