The remarkable conformational dynamics of DHA are full of surprises and in this chapter we describe a new dimension involving membranes routinely subjected to stretching and bending. Numerous cells and their membranes in the human body are subjected to repeated cycles of stretching often induced by mechanical stress.…
This specification covers a series of iron-nickel, iron-nickel-cobalt, and iron-nickel-chromium alloys used for sealing to glasses and ceramics in electronic applications (see 6.1).
Since the discovery of graphene in 2004 by Novoselov and Geim, a lot of research emphasis has been directed towards its characterization. Most of the important scientific breakthroughs have been obtained on exfoliated graphene (produced via the well known ‘scotch tape’ method), nowadays, different synthetic routes hav…

This is a short study on SF₆, H₂ and N₂ adsorption over 13X Molecular Sieve. It is confirmed that 13X can be used to remove SF₆. At cryogenic temperature, 13X adsorbs significant amount of H₂ which can be purged out with He or He with N₂ doses. The N₂ adsorption was not affected with preadsorbed H₂.
Abstract Small greenish black crystals of K9[V16O38(CN)]·13H2O are prepared by dissolving VO(SO4) in an aqueous solution of KCN followed by slow addition of MeOH (89% yield).
Bubbles may form when imaging liquids with in situ liquid-cell electron microscopy. Fluid dynamics videos show beam-induced bubble nucleation and growth. By examining the bubble formation and growth process, we hope to gain a better understanding of interactions between the electron beam and liquids.
Abstract The hydration behavior of the title phase (space group I4/mmm) is investigated to clarify phase formation and underlying mechanisms and driving forces.
Abstract Bergman‐type phases Na26Au18.1Ga35.9 (I), Na26Au36Ga19 (II), Na26Au40.93Ge14.07 (III), and Na26Au39.83Sn15.17 (IV) are prepared by solid state reaction of the elements (700—800 °C, 6—10 h).
Abstract The title carbon (IFMC) is successfully prepared by carbonization of 1‐methyl‐3‐phenethyl‐1H‐imidazolium hydrogen sulfate in the presence of SBA‐15.

Abstract The title compounds are synthesized as mixed oxide ion and electronic conductors for solid oxide fuel cells by solid state reaction of stoichiometric amounts of SrCO3, CeO2, and Pr6O11 (1000 °C, 24 h) and characterized by powder XRD, SAED, SEM, TGA, EDX, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
A review of the phenomenology of the Spin Hall Effect and related phenomena originating from the coupling between spin and charge currents by spin-orbit interaction is presented. The physical origin of various effects in spin-dependent scattering is demonstrated. A previously unknown feature of spin transport, the swa…
The jamming transition characterizes athermal systems of particles interacting via finite range repulsive potentials, and occurs on increasing the density when particles cannot avoid making contacts with those of their first coordination shell. We have recently shown [M. Pica Ciamarra and P. Sollich, arXiv:1209.3334]…
Abstract Na6Li24{[W5O21]3 [(UO2)2(O2)]3} is synthesized by slow evaporation of an aqueous solution containing UO2(NO3)2, H3PW12O40, H2O2, LiOH, and NaOH (initial pH 8.8, 8% yield).

Abstract Nano‐rods of silver complexed N,N′‐bis(4‐pyridyl formamide)‐1,4‐benzene bearing different anions are synthesized and applied as highly efficient catalysts in the partial oxidation of primary amines (I) and (III) with urea hydrogen peroxide to afford the corresponding hydroxylamines (II) and (IV).
