Donor-acceptor (D-A) polymers have attracted significant scientific interest recently because their electronic and optoelectronic properties can be manipulated through intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). However, the correlation between the chemical structure, morphology, and optoelectronic properties has not been f…

Materials selection is a matter of great importance to engineering design and software tools are valuable to inform decisions in product development. When a pool of alternative materials is available for different parts, the question of what optimal material mix to select for a set of parts is not simple. In engineeri…

In this paper we present a discrete a posteriori error estimate for a thermoelastic model problem approximated using the component mode synthesis (CMS) model reduction method. The problem is one-way coupled in the sense that heat transfer affects the elastic deformation, but not vice versa. The error estimate bounds t…

Techniques in the family of weighted residual methods; the orthogonal collocation, Galerkin, tau, and least-squares methods, are adopted to solve a non-linear and highly coupled pellet problem. Based on a residual measure and problem matrix condition numbers, the Galerkin and tau methods are favorable solution techniq…

This paper investigates the effect of interior structures on underwater implosions to mitigate the generated pressure waves. For this purpose a simple spherical implosion with a spherical shell placed inside a bubble is considered. The analytical model couples a finite element model (FEM) for the structural subsystem…

A new finite element is presented for linear magnetoelectric straight laminated beam subject to the assumptions of quasi-steady electromagnetic state. The mechanical model is based upon Timoshenko beam theory to account for shear deformation influences. The electromagnetic stacking sequence is proved to enter the equi…

In the last decade, a number of works have been published proposing the solution of heat diffusion problems by first transforming the relevant partial differential equation (PDE) to the frequency domain. Many of those works make use of the boundary element method, thus requiring the previous knowledge of fundamental s…

In this paper the progressive collapse behaviour of a moment frame with infill steel panels is evaluated using nonlinear static pushdown analysis. The analysis model is a two storey two span structure designed only for gravity load, and the loaddisplacement relationship is obtained with the centre column removed. To o…

Plasmon-coupled fluorescence of rare earth Sm 3+ ions doped into the TiO 2 film placed on thin gold layer is investigated. It was demonstrated that plasmon waves induced in the gold layer strongly influence rare earth emission. We revealed that each spectral peak of Sm 3+ emission can be directionally separated, polar…
