Light amplification in zero-index metamaterial with gain inserts

Weiren Zhu、Ivan D. Rukhlenko、Malin Premaratne2012-07-16Applied Physics Letters

The concept of light amplification in a system of zero-index metamaterial with gain inserts is studied. We demonstrate that the radiation from a point source embedded in the system can be effectively amplified and the net gain is independent of the positions of gain inserts and the source. We further investigate how t…

Sterically Active Electron Pairs in Lead Sulfide? An Investigation of the Electronic and Vibrational Properties of PbS in the Transition Region Between the Rock Salt and the α‐GeTe‐Type Modifications

Dejan Zagorac、K. Doll、J. Christian Schön 等 4 位作者2012-07-16Chemistry - A European Journal

Recently, we have investigated the energy landscape of PbS for many different pressures on the ab initio level by using Hartree-Fock and density functional theory to globally search for possible thermodynamically stable and metastable structures. The perhaps most fascinating observation was that besides the experiment…

Au nanoparticle-decorated graphene electrodes for GaN-based optoelectronic devices

Minhyeok Choe、Chu-Young Cho、Jae‐Phil Shim 等 10 位作者2012-07-16Applied Physics Letters

We studied GaN-based optoelectronic devices such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and solar cells (SCs) with graphene electrodes. A decoration of Au nanoparticles (NPs) on multi-layer graphene films improved the electrical conductivity and modified the work function of the graphene films. The Au NP-decorated graphene f…

Shibing Tian、Lin Li、Wangning Sun 等 7 位作者2012-07-16Scientific Reports

Nanostructured surface possessing ultrahigh adhesion like "gecko foot" or "rose petal" can offer more opportunities for bionic application. We grow flower-like few-layer graphene on silicon nanocone arrays to form graphene nanoclusters, showing robust adhesion. Their contact angle (CA) is 164° with a hysteresis CA of…
