Lei Liu、Kwang Taeg Rim、Daejin Eom 等 5 位作者2008-06-19Nano Letters

The demand for better understanding of the mechanism of soot formation is driven by the negative environmental and health impact brought about by the burning of fossil fuels. While soot particles accumulate most of their mass from surface reactions, the mechanism for surface growth has so far been characterized primar…

Sourabhi Debnath、Qiaohuan Cheng、Theresa G. Hedderman 等 4 位作者2008-06-19The Journal of Physical Chemistry C

The interaction between polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) has been studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. Fluorescence quenching as a function of concentration is modeled, revealing regions where the interaction causes a debundling of the carbon nanotubes. The binding en…

S. Sasaki、Norihito Doki、Noriaki Kubota2008-06-19Crystal Growth & Design

The equilibrium growth-starting supercooling Δ T Geq for the (100) and (111) faces of a sodium chloride crystal was measured at different pHs in the presence of citric acid. The equilibrium growth-starting supercooling Δ T Geq is defined for a given crystallographic face as the degree of supercooling at which the crys…

A. V. Chernenko2008-06-19Advanced materials research

The magnetically weakly anisotropic cubic Ni-Mn-Ga Heusler alloys exhibit martensitic transformation resulting in martensitic phases with elastically soft crystal lattices and strong magnetocrystalline anisotropies. The magnetic state of these martensites is coupled with a highly mobile twin structure through the ordi…

John C. Walmsley、Christian J. Simensen、Astrid Bjørgum 等 5 位作者2008-06-19The Journal of Adhesion

Hard anodic layers produced under DC conditions in sulphuric acid on a commercial AA 6060 aluminium alloy have been characterised by electron microscopy and secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS). Once exposed during anodising, α–Al(Fe, Mn)Si intermetallic particles start to corrode in the electrolyte. Partially corro…

Molecular evolution of B6 enzymes: Binding of pyridoxal-5'-phosphate and Lys41Arg substitution turn ribonuclease A into a model B6 protoenzyme

Rosa Anna Vacca、Sergio Giannattasio、Guido Capitani 等 5 位作者2008-06-19BMC Biochemistry

BACKGROUND: The pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (PLP)-dependent or vitamin B6-dependent enzymes that catalyze manifold reactions in the metabolism of amino acids belong to no fewer than four evolutionarily independent protein families. The multiple evolutionary origin and the essential mechanistic role of PLP in these enzymes…

Gunnar Dunér、Henrik Anderson、Annica Myrskog 等 6 位作者2008-06-19Langmuir

Dynamic acrylamide/acrylate polymeric brushes were synthesized at gold-plated quartz crystal surfaces. The crystals were initially coated with polystyrene-type thin films, derivatized with photolabile iniferter groups, and subsequently subjected to photoinitiated polymerization in acrylamide/acrylate monomer feeds. Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Polymerised Primer to Promote Adhesion of Silicones

Liam O’Neill、N. Shephard、Stuart R. Leadley 等 4 位作者2008-06-19The Journal of Adhesion

By combining a liquid primer and a plasma jet system, a new route to improved adhesion on various substrates has been developed. The liquid primer is introduced as an aerosol into a plasma jet and the resultant active species are deposited as a polymer coating on adjacent surfaces. Careful control of the plasma parame…

Relation between chemical bonding and exchange coupling approaches to the description of ordering in itinerant magnets

German Samolyuk、Gordon J. Miller2008-06-19Journal of Computational Chemistry

Two different approaches to explain and predict the types of magnetic ordering in the 3d metal series and their compounds are reviewed. Electron-Beam Instability in Left-Handed Media

Yu. P. Bliokh、Sergey Savel’ev、Franco Nori2008-06-19Physical Review Letters

We predict that two electron beams can develop an instability when passing through a slab of left-handed media (LHM). This instability, which is inherent only for LHM, originates from the backward Cherenkov radiation and results in a self-modulation of the beams and radiation of electromagnetic waves. These waves leav…
