GaN epitaxy on Cu(110) by metal organic chemical vapor deposition

Qiming Li、Jeffery Figiel、George T. Wang 等 5 位作者2012-05-07Applied Physics Letters

We demonstrate that Cu can be a suitable substrate material for c-plane GaN epitaxy using metal organic chemical vapor deposition. By using a low temperature AlN buffer layer, Ga and Cu alloying can be prevented so that GaN layer can be grown on Cu at a temperature of 1000 °C. An epitaxial relation of GaN (0001)//Cu(1…

A simple and inexpensive technique to improve the emission efficiency of nonpolar a-plane light emitting diodes (LEDs) is proposed. The 3-dimensional growth nature of a-plane GaN was utilized to form the regrowth template of a-plane GaN. Subsequently, the controlled integration of silica nano-spheres (CIS) into the re…

The crystal structure of an intermediate dimer of aspergilloglutamic peptidase that mimics the enzyme-activation product complex produced upon autoproteolysis

Hiroshi Sasaki、Kosei Kubota、Won Chul Lee 等 9 位作者2012-05-07The Journal of Biochemistry

Aspergilloglutamic peptidase from Aspergillus niger var. macrosporus (AGP) is one of the so-called pepstatin-insensitive acid endopeptidases, which are distinct from the well-studied aspartic peptidases. Among the known homologues of the glutamic peptidases, AGP is a unique two-chain enzyme with a light chain and a he…

Abstract A styrene‐based monomer having a five‐membered cyclic carbonate structure, 4‐vinylbenzyl 2,5‐dioxoran‐3‐ylmethyl ether (VBCE), was prepared by lithium bromide‐catalyzed addition of carbon dioxide to 4‐vinylbenxyl glycidyl ether (VBGE). Radical polymerization of the obtained VBCE was carried out using 2,2′‐azo…

Robin Woracek、Jeffrey R. Bunn、Dayakar Penumadu 等 4 位作者2012-05-07Applied Physics Letters

An experimental method, using in-situ neutron diffraction for the measurement of shear strain, based on (hkl) lattice spacing changes under torsional loading, is described. This method provides the ability to probe the response of crystallographic planes to application of shear stress, inside the bulk of samples that…

Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) was used to investigate the binding of six inhibitors to 1-deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate reductoisomerase (DXR), a target for developing novel anti-infectives. The binding of hydroxamate inhibitors to E. coli DXR is Mg(2+)-dependent, highly endothermic (ΔH: 22.7-24.3 kJ/mol) and e…

Biomimetic Carbon Nanotube for Catalytic CO2 Hydrolysis: First-Principles Investigation on the Role of Oxidation State and Metal Substitution in Porphyrin

Donghwa Lee、Yosuke Kanai2012-05-07The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters

Hydrolysis of carbon dioxide is an important reaction for CO2 collection. Using accurate first-principles electronic structure calculations, we predict how the catalytic hydrolysis reaction in carbonic anhydrase (CA) can be mimicked in a metal-porphyrin carbon nanotube. The two-step catalytic process can be improved r…

The flexural response of a three-dimensional (3D) layer-to-layer orthogonal interlocked textile composite has been investigated under quasi-static three-point bending. Fiber tow kinking on the compressive side of the flexed specimens has been found to be a strength limiting mechanism for both warp and weft panels. The…
