A Collaborative Effect between Gold and a Support Induces the Selective Oxidation of Alcohols

Alberto Abad、Patricia Concepción、Avelino Corma 等 4 位作者2005-05-25OpenAlex

Ceria nanoparticles as a support stabilize positive gold species and provide oxygen vacancies. The resulting solid exhibits an exceedingly high efficiency for the solventless aerobic oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols to carbonyl compounds (see picture).

Reflection and transmission of guided modes in parallel-plate waveguides filled with one layer or multilayer chiral medium

Jianfeng Dong、Shanjia Xu、Z. Ningbo2005-05-24OpenAlex

The reflection and transmission characteristics of guided modes in parallel-plate waveguides filled with one layer or multilayer chiral medium have been investigated by using a method, which combines the multimode network theory with a rigorous mode matching procedure. The formulas of the reflection and transmission c…

Effect of SiO 2 and TiO 2 Addition on the Morphology of Abnormally Grown Large Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 –35 mol% PbTiO 3 Grains

Wook Jo、Ui‐Jin Chung、Nong‐Moon Hwang 等 4 位作者2005-05-24Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Abnormal grain growth (AGG) during the sintering of Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 –35 mol% PbTiO 3 was investigated. When a small amount of SiO 2 was added, large abnormal grains with the penetration twin characteristic were observed to appear. AGG, in this case, is because of the twin plane re‐entrant edges that provide coar…

The MgS−Yb 2 S 3 solid solution, which can be formulated as Mg 1 - x Yb (2/3) x □ (1/3) x S (□, cation vacancy), was studied in a wide composition range (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.75). The structure and microstructure characterizations of the samples were mainly performed via transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and associated tech…

Synthesis of Nanocrystalline Enstatite Fiber Via Alkoxide Sol–Gel Process

Mu‐Tsun Tsai2005-05-24Journal of the American Ceramic Society

An alkoxide sol–gel route to precursors to transparent enstatite fibers is described. The fibrous gels were drawn from acetic acid‐modified viscous solutions. The amount of acetic acid was found to be the crucial factor in the spinnability. Infrared studies indicated that the acetate anion behaved as a ligand and modi…

High-Temperature Reaction of Kaolin with Sodium Hydrogen Sulfate

Fernando G. Colina、José Costa2005-05-24Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research

A procedure is described in which kaolin and NaHSO 4 are heated in a furnace at temperatures between 200 and 1000 °C. Parameters studied were the reaction temperature and time, proton to alumina molar ratio, calcination temperature and time, and reaction atmosphere. The Al reaction yield grew until reaching a maximum…

Abstract The problem of macromolecular nucleation and crystallization on porous silicon surface is investigated theoretically. The fractality of the porous silicon layer is exploited. It is shown that the effective surface density of adsorbed particles on a fractal self‐similar surface significantly exceeds that on a…

Liquid Phase Sintering of Alumina, II. Penetration of Liquid Phase into Model Microstructures

Weimin Dong、Himanshu Jain、Martin P. Harmer2005-05-24Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Alumina preforms containing artificial pores were sintered at 1630°C in air and vacuum. Glass penetration into the alumina preforms was conducted at 1600°C in air. It was found that the trapped gases in alumina preforms sintered in air caused the random and incomplete filling of the smaller and larger artificial pores…

Processing of Composite Thin Film Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Structures

Brian P. Gorman、Harlan U. Anderson2005-05-24Journal of the American Ceramic Society

A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) structure is proposed in which a composite thin film cathode substrate supports a dense thin film electrolyte with a thickness of less than 1 μm. The cathode substrate has a graded porosity achieved through the partial sintering of a spin‐coated CeO 2 colloidal suspension. The resulting…

Spark plasma sintering (SPS) is one of the advanced consolidation techniques developed in the last few decades. We have studied the decomposition behavior of MgH 2 and MgH 2 /graphite 1:1 mixtures in the SPS process. The standard SPS setup chosen was modified by including the temperature measurement inside the sample,…

Sintering Kinetics of Undoped and Mn‐Doped Zinc Oxide in the Intermediate Stage

Jiaping Han、P.Q. Mantas、A.M.R. Senos2005-05-24Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The intermediate stage sintering kinetics of undoped ZnO and ZnO doped with 0.1–1.2 mol% Mn were investigated. It was found that the densification in the initial and intermediate stages is affected by surface diffusion in both undoped and Mn‐doped ZnO, and that this contribution increases with the increase in the Mn c…
