One-step synthesis of polypyrrole-coated silver nanocomposite particles and their application as a coloured particulate emulsifier

Syuji Fujii、Atsushi Aichi、Kensuke Akamatsu 等 5 位作者2007-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

Polypyrrole-coated silver nanocomposite particles were synthesized by one-step aqueous chemical oxidative dispersion polymerization of pyrrole using silver nitrate as an oxidant. The synthesized nanocomposite particles behaved as a ‘coloured’ particulate emulsifier for the stabilization of oil-in-water emulsions.

Design and application of stimulus-responsive peptide systems

Karuppiah Chockalingam、Mark Blenner、Scott Banta2007-01-01Protein Engineering Design and Selection

The ability of peptides and proteins to change conformations in response to external stimuli such as temperature, pH and the presence of specific small molecules is ubiquitous in nature. Exploiting this phenomenon, numerous natural and designed peptides have been used to engineer stimulus-responsive systems with poten…

Applications of magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy to porphyrins and phthalocyanines

Nagao Kobayashi、Katsunori Nakai2007-01-01Chemical Communications

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopy has widely been applied to porphyrins and phthalocyanines since around 1970, in order to elucidate their electronic structures. In this mini-review, some representative MCD results from the author's laboratory over the past 30 years are introduced, together with recent re…

Antireflection of transparent polymers by advanced plasma etching procedures

Ulrike Schulz、Peter Munzert、Robert Leitel 等 6 位作者2007-01-01Optics Express

Self-organized nanostructures that provide antireflection properties grow on PMMA caused by plasma ion etching. A new procedure uses a thin initial layer prior to the etching step. Different types of antireflective structures can now be produced in a shorter time and with fewer limitations on the type of polymer that…

The magic gold cluster Au20

Eugene S. Kryachko、F. Remacle2007-01-01International Journal of Quantum Chemistry

Abstract The 20‐nanogold cluster Au 20 exhibits a large variety of two‐ and three‐dimensional isomeric forms. Among them is the ground‐state isomer Au 20 ( T d ) representing the stable cluster with a unique tetrahedral shape, with all atoms on the surface, and large HOMO‐LUMO gap which even slightly exceeds that of t…

Nanocellulose enhanced interfaces in truly green unidirectional fibre reinforced composites

J. Juntaro、Marion Pommet、Athanasios Mantalaris 等 5 位作者2007-01-01Composite Interfaces

One of the main problems in fabricating natural fibre reinforced polymers is the poor adhesion between intrinsically polar plant fibres and non-polar polymer matrices. We have developed a truly green technique of modifying natural fibre (hemp and sisal) surfaces to improve the interaction between the fibres and polyme…

Design and facile production of recombinant resilin-like polypeptides: gene construction and a rapid protein purification method

Russell E. Lyons、Emmanuelle Lesieur、Misook Kim 等 9 位作者2007-01-01Protein Engineering Design and Selection

Resilin is an elastic protein found in specialized regions of the cuticle of insects, which displays unique resilience and fatigue lifetime properties. As is the case with many elastomeric proteins, including elastin, gliadin and spider silks, resilin contains distinct repetitive domains that appear to confer elastic…

An aqueous route to [Ta6O19]8– and solid-state studies of isostructural niobium and tantalum oxide complexes

Travis M. Anderson、Mark A. Rodriguez、François Bonhomme 等 6 位作者2007-01-01Dalton Transactions

A new soft chemical route to [Ta6O19]8- has been developed by the dissolution of [Ta(O2)4]3- in conditions alkaline enough to arrest formation of Ta2O5, followed by [VO4]3--catalyzed decomposition of the peroxide ligands and crystallization of the salt. An average of bond lengths and angles from isostructural salts of…

Hydrogen-bonded donor–acceptor compounds for organic ferroelectric materials

Sachio Horiuchi、Reiji Kumai、Yoshinori Tokura2007-01-01Chemical Communications

Organic ferroelectrics are multifunctional candidates for future organic electronic and optical devices. In spite of their potential, only a few organic compounds are known to exhibit a ferroelectric transition. The conventional approach to ferroelectrics, in general, relies on the use of asymmetric dipolar molecules…
