Lin‐Yue Lanry Yung、Robert W. Colman、Stuart L. Cooper1999-10-15Blood

Interaction of biomaterials with blood components including neutrophils is responsible for some of the clinical complications that have occurred in cardiopulmonary bypass, hemodialysis, and ventricular assist procedures. The possibility of inhibiting the initial adhesion of neutrophils to biomaterials has been studied…

Observation of disorder broadening of core photoelectron spectra of CuZn alloys

Daniel R. Lewis、Richard Cole、P. Weightman1999-10-15Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

The distribution of site potentials in CuZn alloys is investigated using x-ray-excited photoelectron spectroscopy. A small `disorder broadening' of the core-level photoelectron spectra is observed for the alloys. Experimental results are compared with results of model and first-principles calculations.

Fractional bond model for silicon clusters

You-Hua Luo、Jijun Zhao、Guanghou Wang1999-10-15Physical review. B, Condensed matter

${\mathrm{Si}}_{6}$ and ${\mathrm{Si}}_{7}$ are the two largest clusters with confirmed geometries experimentally. The apex atoms in the pentagonal bipyramidal structure for ${\mathrm{Si}}_{7}$ have a coordination number of 6, completely different from the tetrahedral structure of the diamond lattice, and never given…

P. K. de Boer、R. A. de Groot1999-10-15Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Ab initio electronic structure calculations, based on density-functional theory within the generalized gradient approximation, on ${\mathrm{LaSr}}_{2}{\mathrm{Mn}}_{2}{\mathrm{O}}_{7}$ are reported. The bulk electronic structure shows a gap in the minority-spin channel, while the Fermi energy lies at the bottom of the…

Evidence for the stress-thermal rule in an elastomer subjected to simple elongation

A. W. Broerman、David C. Venerus、Jay D. Schieber1999-10-15The Journal of Chemical Physics

Anisotropic thermal diffusivity is examined in a cross-linked silicone elastomer deformed in simple elongation. Thermal diffusivity both parallel and perpendicular to the stretch direction is measured using an optical technique called forced Rayleigh scattering. The thermal diffusivity is found to increase linearly wi…

Rolf W. Winter、Paul G. Nixon、Gary L. Gard 等 7 位作者1999-10-15Chemistry of Materials

Acrylate monomers bearing side chains terminated in sulfur pentafluoride (−SF 5 ) groups have been synthesized. These monomers have been copolymerized into films with the conventional aliphatic acrylic monomer 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) using neat cast mixed monomer films and photoinitiation. Depth-dependent s…

Periodic orbit resonances in layered metals in tilted magnetic fields

Ross H. McKenzie、Perez Moses1999-10-15Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The frequency dependence of the interlayer conductivity of a layered Fermi liquid in a magnetic field that is tilted away from the normal to the layers is considered. For both quasi-one- and quasi-two-dimensional systems resonances occur when the frequency is a harmonic of the frequency at which the magnetic field cau…

Radiative recombinations in amorphous ${\mathrm{Si}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{N}}_{x}:\mathrm{H}$-based nanometric multilayer structures have been studied by stationary and time-resolved photoluminescence measurements at room temperature. Such structures show higher photoluminescence efficiency than reference bulk a…

Chunling Li、Zhenghao Chen、Dafu Cui 等 8 位作者1999-10-15Journal of Applied Physics

Ferroelectric BaTiO3 thin films have been fabricated on SrTiO3(001) substrate using pulsed laser deposition. In order to investigate the phase transition behavior of the thin films, we have conducted high-temperature x-ray diffraction in the process of heating and cooling. Lattice constants, degree of c-axis orientati…

The pressure–volume–temperature (P–V–T) properties of a number of metallocene-produced polyolefins were measured experimentally at 10 MPa ≤ P ≤ 200 MPa and 30°C ≤ T ≤ 220°C in a dilatometer-type P–V–T apparatus. These included ethylene copolymers typical of linear low density polyethylene, with several α-olefins as co…
