Clustering and gelation of hard spheres induced by the Pickering effect

Andrea Fortini2012-04-02Physical Review E

A mixture of hard-sphere particles and model emulsion droplets is studied with a Brownian dynamics simulation. We find that the addition of nonwetting emulsion droplets to a suspension of pure hard spheres can lead to both gas-liquid and fluid-solid phase separations. Furthermore, we find a stable fluid of hard-sphere…

The control of molecular interactions between polyurethane copolymers by grafted malic acid and its impact on polymer characteristics

Yong‐Chan Chung、Jae Won Choi、Joon Young Lee 等 4 位作者2012-04-02Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Malic acid, a molecule containing two carboxyl groups per molecule, was grafted to polyurethane (PU) through a carbamate group. The polymer was transformed to the anionic carboxylate form to observe the impact on the tensile strength and shape recovery of the PU. The electrostatic repulsion of the carboxylate…

Uniaxial–Biaxial Nematic Phase Transition in Combined Main-Chain/Side-Chain Liquid Crystal Polymers Using Self-Consistent Field Theory

Guang Yang、Ping Tang、Yuliang Yang2012-04-02Macromolecules

We investigate the isotropic–anisotropic phase transitions and the conformation of combined main-chain/side-chain liquid crystal polymers (MCSCLCPs) by numerically solving semiflexible chain self-consistent field theory (SCFT) equations with the pseudospectral method. Two kinds of interactions are involved: the global…

Interfacial Thermal Conductance Observed to be Higher in Semiconducting than Metallic Carbon Nanotubes

Stephen Dongmin Kang、Seong Chu Lim、Eui-Sup Lee 等 7 位作者2012-04-02ACS Nano

Thermal transport at carbon nanotube (CNT) interfaces was investigated by characterizing the interfacial thermal conductance between metallic or semiconducting CNTs and three different surfactants. We thereby resolved a difference between metallic and semiconducting CNTs. CNT portions separated by their electronic typ…

Wenjing Wang、Qianhuo Chen、Qing Li 等 6 位作者2012-04-02Crystal Growth & Design

We report here a Cu(II)-Schiff base complex that can assemble into one-dimensional (1D) nanoscale fibers, belts, and rods under different synthetic conditions. The ligand-structure effect is investigated by modification of the ligand structure. The formation of a 1D nanostructure was studied, and the formation of dime…

Relationships between skin follicle characteristics and fibre properties of Suri and Huacaya alpacas and Peppin Merino sheep

M.B. Ferguson、B. A. McGregor、R. Behrendt2012-04-02Animal Production Science

We aimed to quantify the number, type and arrangement of skin follicles in Huacaya and Suri alpaca skin and correlate their follicle characteristics with fibre traits of harvested fibre and compared these relationships with those of Merino sheep. Fibre and skin samples were collected from the mid-side of 12 Huacaya al…

Quantized charge pumping through a carbon nanotube double quantum dot

S. J. Chorley、J. Frake、C. G. Smith 等 5 位作者2012-04-02Applied Physics Letters

We demonstrate single-electron pumping in a gate-defined carbon nanotube double quantum dot. By periodic modulation of the potentials of the two quantum dots, we move the system around charge triple points and transport exactly one electron or hole per cycle. We investigate the pumping as a function of the modulation…

Deepak Kumar、Sadaf S. Chishti、Abhishek Rai 等 4 位作者2012-04-02OpenAlex

Abstract Scale deposition in producing wellbores is a serious problem in the industry. The problem gets worse, when the scale is caused due to barium and strontium salts. These salts are difficult to clean as they are not easily soluble in any kinds of solution or chelating agents. In case of offshore operation, the s…
