Highly Ordered Merocyanine Dye Assemblies by Supramolecular Polymerization and Hierarchical Self‐Organization

Frank Würthner、Sheng Yao、Uwe Beginn2003-07-16Angewandte Chemie International Edition

Step by step: Bis(merocyanine) dyes 1 self-assemble in a stepwise manner with increasing concentration to afford supramolecular polymers, organogels, and liquid-crystalline phases. The close contacts between the chromophores within these superstructures enables strong D- and H-type excitonic coupling to be observed.

Jian Li、Cixing Zhou、Gang Wang 等 4 位作者2003-07-16Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Polypropylene/montmorillonite nanocomposites (PPCN) were prepared by melt intercalation with maleic anhydride modified low isotactic polypropylene as the compatibilizer. The linear and nonlinear rheological properties of polypropylene/montmorillonite nanocomposites were studied. The deviation from linear beha…

Simple Physical Picture of the Overhauser Screened Electron-Electron Interaction

Maria Corona、Paola Gori-Giorgi、John P. Perdew2003-07-16arXiv

As shown by Overhauser and others, the pair-distribution function $g(r)$ of a many-electron system may be found by solving a two-electron scattering problem with an effective screened electron-electron repulsion $V(r)$. We propose a simple physical picture in which this screened repulsion is the ``dressed-dressed'' in…

Hund's rule Magnetism in C60 ions?

Martin Lueders、Nicola Manini、Paolo Gattari 等 4 位作者2003-07-16arXiv

We investigate the occurrence of Hund's rule magnetism in C60(n+-) molecular ions, by computing the ground-state spin for all charge states n from -3 to +5. The two competing interactions, electron-vibration (e-v, including Jahn Teller, favoring low spin) and electron-electron (e-e, including Hund-rule exchange, favor…

Comment to "Experimental Evidence of a Dynamic Jahn-Teller Effect in C60+"

Nicola Manini、Erio Tosatti2003-07-16arXiv

A recent Letter reports photoemission data for the free C60 molecule, showing an interesting three-peak structure, presented as evidence of dynamic Jahn-Teller (DJT) effect in the C60+ ion. Those data constitute, along with earlier spectra by the Uppsala group, the best available piece of experimental evidence about t…

K. D. Machado、J. C. de Lima、C. E. M. Campos 等 5 位作者2003-07-16arXiv

The short and intermediate range order of an amorphous Ge$_{30}$Se$_{70}$ alloy produced by Mechanical Alloying were studied by Reverse Monte Carlo simulations of its x-ray total structure factor, Raman scattering and differential scanning calorimetry. The simulations were used to compute the $G^{\text{RMC}}_{\text{Ge…

pH as a Trigger of Peptide β-Sheet Self-Assembly and Reversible Switching between Nematic and Isotropic Phases

Amalia Aggeli、Mark Bell、Lisa M. Carrick 等 9 位作者2003-07-16OpenAlex

The hierarchical self-assembly of rationally designed synthetic peptides into beta-sheet tapes, ribbons, fibrils, and fibers opens up potentially useful routes to soft-solidlike materials such as hydrogels, organogels, or liquid crystals. Here, it is shown how incorporation of Glu (-CH(2)CH(2)COOH) or Orn (-CH(2)CH(2)…

Repulsion-Induced Order Formation in Graphite-Diamondlike Transition of Boron Nitride: A Molecular Dynamics Study

Hiroaki Koga、Yoshimichi Nakamura、Satoshi Watanabe2003-07-15Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

Repulsion-induced order formation is shown to be crucial to the occurrence of the transition from rhombohedral boron nitride (rBN) to cubic boron nitride (cBN), by performing molecular dynamics simulations. Due to the repulsion among B (N), a face-centered-cubic (fcc) lattice of B (N) is formed under compression. This…

Dielectric Dispersion in Antiferroelectric Liquid Crystal under DC Bias Field

Mee-Hye Jung、Jong-Jean Kim2003-07-15Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

Field-induced phase transition from the antiferroelectric to the ferroelectric phase was studied by dielectric measurements in an antiferroelectric liquid crystal (AFLC) CS-4001. Two distinctive relaxation modes were found to contribute to the dielectric anomalies of the field-induced transition in the AFLC CS-4001.

Phenomenology of Elastic Properties in Martensite Alloys

Yoshihiro Ishibashi、Makoto Iwata2003-07-15Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

The phase diagram and elastic stiffness constants in Martensite alloys with the symmetry change from the cubic m\bar3m to the tetragonal 4/mmm and the orthorhombic mmm symmetries are discussed on the basis of the Landau-type free energy function expressed in terms of the strain components, u 1 , u 2 and u 3 . It was f…

Coating carbon nanotubes: Geometry of incommensurate long-range-ordered physisorbed monolayers

Antonio Šiber2003-07-15Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The structures of a long-range-ordered physisorbed monolayer on a carbon nanotube are examined. Geometrical and energetical constraints determining the order of such monolayers are discussed. A number of symmetrically different, strongly bound adsorbate structures is found for Xe adsorbates, some of which differ very…

Electrochemical treatment of poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) surfaces has been effected in localized areas of typical dimension of the order of 200 μm, leading to small regions of increased surface free energy. These have been studied by considering the wetting triple lines of tricresyl phosphate in the vicinity. Goo…

The effects of light-induced reorientation on a homeotropical dye-doped liquid crystal (DDLC) cell are discussed. The photoexcited azo dye Methyl Red (MR) is diffused and adsorbed onto the substrate, thus forming a ripple structure. The adsorbed dye and the laser-induced ripple structure then reorient the liquid-cryst…

We have investigated the crystal structures and magnetic properties of the α- and δ-phases of an organic radical p -NPNN ( p -nitrophenyl α-nitronyl nitroxide), which yielded the first organic bulk ferromagnet, β- p -NPNN (the β-phase). The results are compared with those of the β- and γ-phases, which show distinct ma…
