Molecular Evolution of Silk Genes in Mesothele and Mygalomorph Spiders, With Implications for the Early Evolution and Functional Divergence of Silk

James Starrett2012-01-01eScholarship (California Digital Library)

The evolution of adaptively significant gene families is an important subject in the field of evolutionary genetics. For spiders, the gene families encoding silk proteins have received considerable attention due to the high performance capabilities of the fibers they produce. However, silk gene research has largely fo…

Raman spectra of Sm-doped and La-doped BiFeO3

Zhu Ke-rong、QI Meng-yao、Chuanxi Huang2012-01-01OpenAlex

The environmental impacts of material production and processing are rapidly increasing and critical. These impacts can be reduced, to some extent, by development of either a suitable material or by implementing a novel process route to improve the material efficiency. In such circumstances, the recent emergence of nea…

Multiconverter Unified Power-Quality Conditioning System: MC-UPQC

T. Charan Singh、L. Kishore、Tirupathi Reddy2012-01-01OpenAlex

Abstract—This paper presents a new unified power-quality conditioning system (MC-UPQC), capable of simultaneous compensation for voltage and current in multibus/multifeeder systems. In this configuration, one shunt voltage-source converter (shunt VSC) and two or more series VSCs exist. The system can be applied to adj…

Design, construction, and characterization of the ysgr minimal codon fab library for chaperone-assisted rna crystallography

Sean T. Holmes2012-01-01Journal of International Crisis and Risk Communication Research

Of the entire human genome, 90% of all genetic information is transcribed but only a fraction of that subsequent RNA is translated into proteins. RNAs which are not translated into proteins are deemed non-coding RNAs. Little is known about this large category of noncoding RNAs, although they perform a variety of funct…

Influence of Temperature on Asphalt Mixture Stiffness Modulus

Maja Halle、Tatjana Rukavina、Josipa Domitrović2012-01-01OpenAlex

It is well known that temperature has a great influence on performance of asphalt layers. Low temperatures raise the asphalt stiffness modulus which finally results in low temperature cracking. On the other hand, the increase of the temperature softens the asphalt binder and the stiffness modulus significantly drops.…

Nanomaterials in the Environment EFFECTS OF NATURAL WATER CHEMISTRY ON NANOSILVER BEHAVIOR AND TOXICITY TO CERIODAPHNIA DUBIA AND PSEUDOKIRCHNERIELLA SUBCAPITATA

J. JOSEPH MCLAUGHLIN、Jean‐Claude J. Bonzongo2012-01-01OpenAlex

The success of nanotechnology will undoubtedly lead to the increased introduction of nanoparticles (NPs) into natural systems, and aquatic systems will likely act as sinks for these new pollutants. Differences in the chemistry of these aquatic systems will control changes in surface properties of NPs and therefore cou…
