First Pd@Organo−Si(HIPE) Open-Cell Hybrid Monoliths Generation Offering Cycling Heck Catalysis Reactions

Simona Ungureanu、Hervé Deleuze、Clément Sánchez 等 5 位作者2008-09-30Chemistry of Materials

The syntheses and characterization of a new class of grafted organo−Si(HIPE) “high internal phase emulsion” open-cell matrixes is first proposed. Second, internal palladium particles heterogeneous nucleation is briefly discussed, leading finally to the generation of the new Pd@organo−Si(HIPE) series. The matrixes synt…

Aggregation States of Rhodamine 6G in Mesostructured Silica Films

Luca Malfatti、Tongjit Kidchob、Daniela Aiello 等 6 位作者2008-09-30The Journal of Physical Chemistry C

Mesostructured films are an ideal material for incorporation of fluorescent dyes; controlling the doping process is, however, a critical step because the dyes will be constrained in a complex chemical environment. We have incorporated rhodamine 6G, a well-known fluorescent dye, in silica mesostructured 2d-hexagonal fi…

Long‐Term Fertilization Influences on Clay Mineral Composition and Ammonium Adsorption in a Rice Paddy Soil

Yan-Li Liu、Bin Zhang、Chengliang Li 等 5 位作者2008-09-30Soil Science Society of America Journal

Increasing NH 4 + adsorption can be an effective alternative in building an available N pool in soils to optimize crop recovery and minimize losses into the environment. We hypothesized that long‐term fertilization may change NH 4 + adsorption due to changes in the chemical and mineralogical properties of a rice ( Ory…

Rhythmic Growth-Induced Ring-Banded Spherulites with Radial Periodic Variation of Thicknesses Grown from Poly(ε-caprolactone) Solution with Constant Concentration

Zongbao Wang、Giovanni C. Alfonso、Zhijun Hu 等 5 位作者2008-09-30Macromolecules

Birefringent ring-banded spherulites with radial periodic variation of thicknesses were grown from poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) solutions under conditions for which the solution concentration was held constant during the whole development of the morphology. The as-grown ring-banded spherulites were investigated by optic…

Near-Field Focusing Plates and Their Design

Anthony Grbic、Roberto Merlin2008-09-30IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation

We describe the design of near-field focusing plates, which are grating-like structures that can focus electromagnetic radiation to spots or lines of arbitrarily small subwavelength dimension. A general procedure is outlined for designing a near-field plate to achieve a desired focus, and its implementation at microwa…

Effect of Plasticizer Type and Amount on Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose−Beeswax Edible Film Properties and Postharvest Quality of Coated Plums (Cv. Angeleno)

María Ll. Navarro-Tarazaga、Rungsinee Sothornvit、María B. Pérez‐Gago2008-09-30Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry

The effect of the composition of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)-beeswax (BW) edible coatings on stand-alone film properties and on postharvest quality of coated 'Angeleno' plums was studied. Glycerol (G) and mannitol (M) were tested as plasticizers at two different plasticizer/HPMC ratios (100:1 and 300:1 molar…

Crystal Growth of DAST

B. Ruiz、Mojca Jazbinšek、Peter Günter2008-09-30Crystal Growth & Design

We explore the growth of the highly nonlinear optical trans -4′-(dimethylamino)- N -methyl-4-stilbazolium tosylate) (DAST) crystals from methanol solutions. We determined the key thermodynamic quantities of the DAST/methanol system, which allowed us to optimize the conditions of the crystal growth and to manipulate th…

Hydrogen-Bonded Polymer−Azobenzene Complexes: Enhanced Photoinduced Birefringence with High Temporal Stability through Interplay of Intermolecular Interactions

Arri Priimägi、Jaana Vapaavuori、Francisco J. Rodríguez 等 8 位作者2008-09-30Chemistry of Materials

We study the photoresponsive behavior of thin films of supramolecular 4-nitro-4′-hydroxyazobenzene−poly(4-vinylpyridine) complexes. Hydrogen bonding between the phenol and pyridine moieties allows attaching a chromophore to essentially each repeat unit of the polymer, thereby suppressing macroscopic phase separation a…

Achievement of 4.7% conversion efficiency in ZnO dye-sensitized solar cells fabricated by spray deposition using hydrothermally synthesized nanoparticles

Akshay Rao、Viresh Dutta2008-09-30Nanotechnology

ZnO-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been fabricated using hydrothermally synthesized ZnO nanoparticles by spray deposition. The effect of self-assembled nanostructures in ZnO photoelectrodes, due to the electric field during spray deposition, has been studied. Thickness of the photoelectrode is found to…

Intelligent Drug Delivery Systems: Polymeric Micelles and Hydrogels

Carmen Alvarez‐Lorenzo、Ángel Concheiro2008-09-30Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry

Advanced drug delivery systems try to adjust the site and/or the rate of the release to the physiological conditions of the patient, to the progression of the illness, or to the circadian rhythms. Being different from classical pre-programmed controlled release dosage forms, the new devices aim to provide the drug rel…

Influence of doping on the properties of vanadium oxide gel films

A. L. Pergament、Andrei Velichko、O. Ya. Berezina 等 6 位作者2008-09-30Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

Effect of doping with H and W on the properties of V2O5 and VO2 derived from V2O5 gel has been studied. It is shown that the treatment of V2O5 in low-temperature RF hydrogen plasma for 1 to 10 min. leads to either hydration of vanadium pentoxide or its reduction (depending on the treatment conditions) to lower vanadiu…

Density functional study of amorphous, liquid and crystalline Ge2Sb2Te5: homopolar bonds and/or AB alternation?

Jaakko Akola、R. Jones2008-09-30Journal of Physics Condensed Matter

The amorphous, liquid and crystalline phases of the phase change material Ge(2)Sb(2)Te(5) (GST) have been studied by means of density functional/molecular dynamics simulations. The large sample (460 atoms and 52 vacancies in the unit cell) and long simulations (hundreds of picoseconds) provide much new information. He…

We summarize our recent results that model the formation of uniform spherical silver colloids prepared by mixing iso-ascorbic acid and silver-amine complex solutions in the absence of dispersants. We found that the experimental results can be modeled effectively by the two-stage formation mechanism used previously to…

The discontinuous nature of the exchange-correlation functional -- critical for strongly correlated systems

Paula Mori-Sanchez、Aron J. Cohen、Weitao Yang2008-09-30arXiv

Standard approximations for the exchange-correlation functional have been found to give big errors for the linearity condition of fractional charges, leading to delocalization error, and the constancy condition of fractional spins, leading to static correlation error. These two conditions are now unified for states wi…

Shape transition in ZnO nanostructures and its effect on blue-green photoluminescence

Manoranjan Ghosh、A. K. Raychaudhuri2008-09-30Nanotechnology

We report that ZnO nanostructures synthesized by a chemical route undergo a shape transition at ∼20 nm from spherical to hexagonal morphology thereby changing the spectral components of the blue-green emission. Spherically shaped nanocrystals (size range 11-18 nm) show emission in the range of 555-564 nm and the emiss…
