Absorption and near-infrared emission properties of Bi-doped “powder-in-tube” fabricated fibers were compared with the bulk glass samples of the same Mg-Al-silicate glass composition. The losses in the fibers were an order of magnitude less than in Ir crucible melted glasses.

The micro-structure of systems with competition often exhibits many universal features. In this thesis, we study certain aspects of these structural features as well as the microscopic interactions using disparate exact and approximate techniques. This thesis can be broadly divided into two parts. In the first part, w…

Experimental results are presented on the development of a high explosive (HE) suitable for the welding of thin metallic foils. The explosive is formed from a mixture of brisant HE (RDX or PETN) and an inert material, namely sodium bicarbonate. Sodium bicarbonate releases a rather large quantity of gas during decompos…

The mean-field approximation predicts pairing and shape phase transitions in nuclei as a function of temperature or excitation energy. However, in the finite nucleus the singularities of these phase transitions are smoothed out by quantal and thermal fluctuations. An interesting question is whether signatures of these…

Recent research results on a green LED and solar cell based on ZnTe are reported. The wall plug efficiency of ZnTe LED has been improved to 0.15% by adopting a thin film structure, which is comparable to that of GaP-based green LED. The solar cell based on ZnTe with an efficiency of 1.42% has also been developed. The…

The kinetics of aniline oxidative polymerization has been studied by the potentiometric technique. This is the first time that a kinetic model of oxidative polymerization has been constructed as a heterogeneous autocatalytical process. The change in the degree of rate of aniline oxidative polymerization has been deter…

Lifetime of an indium tin oxide (ITO) target is an important characteristic in the production of liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Increasing the sintering density of the ITO target is assumed to lead to an increased lifetime. So far, it has been clarified that the carbon concentration in In2O3 powder, the raw material…
