Thin coatings applied to metals is a material-saving process to improve the surface properties such as abrasion and corrosion resistance of the substrate. Pure inorganic coatings are generally too thin to offer long-term protection, and thick coatings are prone to crack formation during processing. However, by incorpo…

In 1910 Ivar Bang reported that concentrated solutions of guanylic acid formed a gel. It took half a century before Gellert et al. in 1962 discovered the structural motif, a guanine-quartet, to be the basis for guanylic acid gelation. This chapter starts with a historical overview and gives credit to Ivar Bang and sev…

The goal of this doctoral work was to observe and analyze the stability and dynamics of phospholipid-encapsulated microbubbles, and in particular the reaction to sudden submersion in a multi-gas medium. To accomplish this goal, first an experimental technique was developed to observe a microbubble in a single-gas envi…

There were recent studies suggesting that nano-carbon materials could enhance the crystallinity development or the charge mobility of conjugated polymers. It is highly tempting to speculate that the enhanced charge mobility might be a result of morphological changes in the matrix polymer. By use of wide-angle X-ray sc…
