中越パルプ工業株式会社川内工場は,製紙用原料として国内では放置されていた伐採竹を官民一体となって大量に且つ持続的に集荷し資源として活用する事で竹林整備,隣接する森林や里山,生物多様性の保全に貢献している。竹紙の生産は地域住民・木材加工業者・川内工場の三者が経済的・時間的な負担を等分に分け合うことで成り立っている。地域資源である伐採竹を使用した竹パルプ製造は当初連釜により開始したが,効率的,有効的利用を行うため,平成22年より小ロット品種生産に適したバッチ釜製造ラインに切替えて竹パルプの増産を図ってきたのでその事例について紹介する。
