Graphene oxide oxidizes stannous ions to synthesize tin sulfide–graphene nanocomposites with small crystal size for high performance lithium ion batteries

Ming Zhang、Danni Lei、Xinzhi Yu 等 8 位作者2012-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

This study reports a novel strategy of preparing graphene composites by employing graphene oxide as precursor and oxidizer. It is demonstrated that graphene oxide can oxidize stannous ions to form SnS2 and is simultaneously reduced to graphene, directly resulting in the formation of SnSx–graphene (1 < x < 2) nanocompo…

Spectroscopic capture and reactivity of S = 1/2 nickel(iii)–oxygen intermediates in the reaction of a NiII-salt with mCPBA

Florian Felix Pfaff、Florian Heims、Subrata Kundu 等 5 位作者2012-01-01Chemical Communications

Ni(III)-intermediates are trapped by EPR and UV/Vis spectroscopy in the reaction of a Ni(II) salt with mCPBA. On the basis of their oxo-transfer and hydrogen-atom abstraction abilities the intermediates are assigned as the elusive terminal Ni(III)-oxo/hydroxo species. The findings suggest that Ni(III)-O(H) moieties ar…

Synthesis of fullerene modified with Ag2S with high photocatalytic activity under visible light

Ze-Da Meng、Trisha Ghosh、Lei Zhu 等 6 位作者2012-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

We improve the photocatalytic effect of Ag2S under visible light by using fullerene modified with Ag2S nanoparticles. Surface areas and pore volumes of the Ag2S–fullerene samples showed catastrophic decreases due to the deposition of Ag2S. The generation of reactive oxygen species was detected through the oxidation re…

A comparison of grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GiWAXS) and differential scanning calorimetric measurements (DSC) was used to identify the influence of a dominantly amorphous small band gap polymer material poly[2,6-(4,4-bis-(2-ethylhexyl)-4H-cyclopenta[2,1-b;3,4-b′]dithiophene)-alt-4,7(2,1,3-benzothiad…

Thermally stable N2 and H2 adducts of cationic nickel(ii)

Charlene Tsay、Jonas C. Peters2012-01-01Chemical Science

The first examples of thermally stable molecular dihydrogen adducts of nickel were synthesized from their dinitrogen adduct precursors, which are themselves among the first examples of Ni(II)-N2 complexes. The minimal activation of the bound N2 moieties suggests that these adducts are stabilized predominantly through…

Mesocrystalline Cu2O hollow nanocubes: synthesis and application in non-enzymatic amperometric detection of hydrogen peroxide and glucose

Zhiyong Gao、Junli Liu、Jiuli Chang 等 8 位作者2012-01-01CrystEngComm

Mesocrystalline Cu2O hollow nanocubes (MCHNs) were successfully prepared by a facile reduction reaction under room temperature. CuCl2 played a dual role as both copper source and morphology controlling reagent for the oriented aggregation of primary Cu2O crystallites toward MCHNs. Due to the high crystallinity and hig…

Biological stimuli responsive drug carriers based on keratin for triggerable drug delivery

Qinmei Li、Lijun Zhu、Ruigang Liu 等 10 位作者2012-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

A novel drug carrier with dual triggerable release properties based on keratin graft poly(ethylene glycol) (keratin-g-PEG) copolymers is reported. Keratin-g-PEG copolymers with different graft densities are synthesized through thiol–ene click chemistry. Taking advantage of the amphiphilicity and the thiol groups of th…

Stabilising fluorescent silica nanoparticles against dissolution effects for biological studies

Eugene Mahon、Delyan R. Hristov、Kenneth A. Dawson2012-01-01Chemical Communications

Here we show that commonly employed Stöber type fluorescently labelled silica nanoprobes degrade by hydrolytic dissolution, accelerated under biological media conditions as compared to water alone. We have thus developed a method to greatly improve their stability under such conditions.

Free energy landscapes for homogeneous nucleation of ice for a monatomic water model.

Reinhardt, A、Doye, JPK2012-01-01Oxford University Research Archive (ORA) (University of Oxford)

We simulate the homogeneous nucleation of ice from supercooled liquid water at 220 K in the isobaric-isothermal ensemble using the MW monatomic water potential. Monte Carlo simulations using umbrella sampling are performed in order to determine the nucleation free energy barrier. We find the Gibbs energy profile to be…

Xin‐Dong Jiang、Jian Zhang、Xiangmin Shao 等 4 位作者2012-01-01Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry

A selective and sensitive turn-on fluorescent NIR probe for cysteine has been developed. Cleavage of 2,4-dinitrobenzenesulfonyl (DNBS) with thiols switches the weakly fluorescent aza-BODIPY dye (λ(em) = 734 nm, Φ(f) = 0.03) to a strongly fluorescent species in the NIR region (λ(em) = 755 nm, Φ(f) = 0.14).

Youngnam Cho、Yongdoo Choi2012-01-01Chemical Communications

A nano-sized graphene oxide-photosensitizer conjugate with a redox-responsive cleavable disulfide linker is non-fluorescent and non-phototoxic, even upon light irradiation. It becomes highly fluorescent and phototoxic inside cancer cells, where glutathione is used as an initiator for activating the photosensitizer.
