Abstract A chain complex, [Mo2{O2CC(CH3)3}4 bpy]n (bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine), was prepared by the reaction of molybdenum(II) pivalate (Mo2{O2CC(CH3)3}4) and bpy. An X-ray crystal analysis showed that the chain structure is formed by alternating Mo2{O2CC(CH3)3}4 and bpy.
