A New Biodegradable Flexible Composite Sheet from Poly(lactic acid)/Poly(ε‐caprolactone) Blends and Micro‐Talc

Shikha Jain、Murali M. Reddy、Amar K. Mohanty 等 5 位作者2010-07-14Macromolecular Materials and Engineering

Abstract The influence of talc loading on phase morphology of PLA/PCL/talc composites and improvement in resulting properties are reported. Talc‐based composites of PLA/PCL blends were prepared by melt blending. SEM analysis demonstrates that PLA appears as discrete domain phase, while PCL acts as a bulk phase in the…

Fast 3D chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) imaging of the human brain

He Zhu、Craig Jones、Peter C.M. van Zijl 等 5 位作者2010-07-14Magnetic Resonance in Medicine

Chemical exchange saturation transfer magnetic resonance imaging can detect low-concentration compounds with exchangeable protons through saturation transfer to water. This technique is generally slow, as it requires acquisition of saturation images at multiple frequencies. In addition, multislice imaging is complicat…

Structural motifs in oxidized graphene: A genetic algorithm study based on density functional theory

Hongjun Xiang、Su‐Huai Wei、Xin-Gao Gong2010-07-14Physical Review B

The structural and electronic properties of oxidized graphene are investigated on the basis of the genetic algorithm and density functional theory calculations. We find two new low-energy semiconducting phases of the fully oxidized graphene $({\text{C}}_{1}\text{O})$. In one phase, there is parallel epoxy pair chains…

Ab initiocalculations of electronic excitations: Collapsing spectral sums

J. A. Berger、Lucia Reining、Francesco Sottile2010-07-14Physical Review B

We present a method for the evaluation of electronic excitations of advanced materials by reformulating spectral sum-over-states expressions such that only occupied states appear. All empty states are accounted for by one effective energy. Thus we keep the simplicity and precision of the sum-over-states approach while…

Poly(γ-glutamic acid) Hydrogels with Water-Sensitive Luminescence Derived from Aggregation-Induced Emission ofo-Carborane

Kenta Kokado、Atsushi Nagai、Yoshiki Chujo2010-07-14Macromolecules

We demonstrate the synthesis of a novel diglycidyl compound exhibiting aggregation-induced emission (AIE) derived from o -carborane, and employed it as a cross-linking reagent to prepare translucent hydrogels consisting of poly(γ-glutamic acid). Swelling ratio of the obtained hydrogels depended on the cross-linking de…

Generalized Kinetic Master Plots for the Thermal Degradation of Polymers Following a Random Scission Mechanism

Pedro E. Sánchez‐Jiménez、Luis A. Pérez‐Maqueda、Antonio Perejón 等 4 位作者2010-07-14The Journal of Physical Chemistry A

In this paper, the f(alpha) conversion functions for random scission mechanisms have been proposed to allow for the construction of generalized master plots suitable for these kinds of mechanisms. The master plots have been validated by their application to simulated data and to the thermal degradation of poly(butylen…

Effects of magnetism and doping on the electron-phonon coupling inBaFe2As2

Lilia Boeri、Matteo Calandra、I. I. Mazin 等 5 位作者2010-07-14Physical Review B

We calculate the effect of local magnetic moments on the electron-phonon coupling in doped ${\text{BaFe}}_{2}{\text{As}}_{2}$ using the density-functional perturbation theory. We show that the magnetism enhances the total electron-phonon coupling by $\ensuremath{\sim}50\mathrm{%}$, up to $\ensuremath{\lambda}\ensurema…

Single-Dirac-Cone topological surface states in TlBiSe2 class of Topological Insulators

H. Lin、R. S. Markiewicz、L. A. Wray 等 6 位作者2010-07-14arXiv

We have investigated several strong spin-orbit coupling ternary chalcogenides related to the (Pb,Sn)Te series of compounds. Our first-principles calculations predict the low temperature rhombohedral ordered phase in TlBiTe2, TlBiSe2, and TlSbX2 (X=Te, Se, S) to be topologically Kane-Mele Z2 = -1 nontrivial. We identif…

A. Wild、J. Sailer、J. Nützel 等 6 位作者2010-07-14arXiv

We present an electrostatically defined few-electron double quantum dot (QD) realized in a molecular beam epitaxy grown Si/SiGe heterostructure. Transport and charge spectroscopy with an additional QD as well as pulsed-gate measurements are demonstrated. We discuss technological challenges specific for silicon-based h…

Quantifying Changes in the Spatial Structure of Trabecular Bone

Norbert Marwan、Gise Beller、Dieter Felsenberg 等 5 位作者2010-07-14arXiv

We apply recently introduced measures of complexity for the structural quantfication of distal tibial bone. For the first time, we are able to investigate the temporal structural alteration of trabecular bone. Based on four patients, we show how bone may alter due to temporal immobilisation.

Size-dependent magnetization fluctuations in NiO nanoparticles

Sunil Kumar Mishra、V. Subrahmanyam2010-07-14arXiv

The finite size and surface roughness effects on the magnetization of NiO nanoparticles is investigated. A large magnetic moment arises for an antiferromagnetic nanoparticle due to these effects. The magnetic moment without the surface roughness has a non-monotonic and oscillatory dependence on $R$, the size of the pa…

Spectral and polarization dependencies of luminescence by hot carriers in graphene

F. T. Vasko、O. G. Balev2010-07-14arXiv

The luminescence caused by the interband transitions of hot carriers in graphene is considered theoretically. The dependencies of emission in mid- and near-IR spectral regions versus energy and concentration of hot carriers are analyzed; they are determined both by an applied electric field and a gate voltage. The pol…

Playing nano-tectonics: The interaction of atomic hydrogen with a single layer of hexagonal boron nitride on rhodium leads to the removal of the h-BN surface corrugation (see picture; blue region: corrugated, orange region: flat). This change of surface texture arises from the intercalation of hydrogen atoms between t…
