Molecular structures and non-linear optical properties of donor–acceptor quinoid-type molecules

Weihua Zhu、Yuansheng Jiang2000-01-01Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics

AM1 calculations are performed to study the molecular structures and the linear and non-linear polarizabilities of the donor–acceptor quinoid-type molecules under the influence of an external electric field defined by point charges (Sparkles). We investigate and compare the relationships between the molecular structur…

FTIR study of self-protonation and gel formation in pyridinic solutions of poly(4-vinylpyridine)

Mark Rozenberg、Evgenya Vaganova、Shlomo Yitzchaik2000-01-01New Journal of Chemistry

An FTIR study reveals the complex zwitterion (R2C−–Py+–H) in a polymeric chain of poly(4-vinylpyridine), which results from self-protonation of the latter in a pyridine solution. Presumably this complex ion, together with the observed strongly hydrogen-bonded network, is responsible for the formation of a gel with uni…

Vacancies and a generalised melting curve of alkali halides

K. Książek、Tadeusz Górecki2000-01-01High Temperatures-High Pressures

The vacancy model of the melting process is used as a starting point for deriving an expression for the pressure dependence of the melting temperature of alkali halides. The results obtained for the initial slope of the melting curve are compared with experimental data for 15 alkali halides and in most cases the agree…

A Mechanical Model of Yarn Twist Blockage in Rotor Spinning

Baoping Guo、Xiaoming Tao、Tinyee Lo2000-01-01Textile Research Journal

This paper presents a mechanical model in which dynamic equilibriums of forces and moments are considered. This model is able to quantitatively describe twist distribution in the frictional contact zone inside a rotor in terms of yam, machine, and operational parameters. Four cases of the application of this model are…

Terry A. Egerton、E A Harris、Elmer J. Lawson 等 5 位作者2000-01-01Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics

In situ high temperature EPR measurements of the growth of the signal of substitutional Cr(III) ions have been used to study the diffusion of Cr in the rutile form of titanium dioxide. Two preparations, characteristic of the two main processes employed for the production of titanium dioxide, have been studied. The fir…

Styrene-butadiene copolymers: mechanical, swelling and orientational properties

Liliane Bokobza2000-01-01Polymer International

The results of equilibrium stress–strain and swelling experiments are reported for styrene–butadiene copolymers of varying crosslink density and varying butadiene microstructure. The orientation of polymer chains is investigated under uniaxial elongation by birefringence and infrared dichroism spectroscopies which pro…

Displacive vs. order-disorder in structural phase transitions

J. M. Pérez-Mato、S. Ivantchev、Alberto Garcı́a 等 4 位作者2000-01-01Ferroelectrics

The quantitative assessment of the displacive degree of a structural phase transition is discussed both from a microscopical and an empirical viewpoint. Using Monte Carlo results for the Φ4model as a qualitative guide, the relation between both perspectives is shown. Based on the general trends observed, an empirical…

On Rdenberg's integral approximations and their unrestricted and combined use in molecular orbital theories of Hartree-Fock type

W. Koch2000-01-01International Journal of Quantum Chemistry

Rüdenberg's well-known letter of 1951 contains two implications which still have not been employed so far in numerical computations: (1) Whenever all types of attraction and repulsion integrals are subject to the Rüdenberg approximations in its simplest form partially known already from Mulliken, the attractive, the C…

Stress-wave-induced martensitic phase transformations in NiTi

Joanne C. Escobar2000-01-01AIP conference proceedings

Pressure-shear plate impact experiments have been used to study the kinetics of martensitic phase transformations in polycrystalline NiTi—a shape-memory alloy. From symmetric impact experiments the limiting shear stress at which the transformation occurs is found to be 46 MPa. From experiments in which a thin NiTi foi…

Hiroshi IIZUKA、G. Kato、K. Igarashi 等 5 位作者2000-01-01Journal of the Society of Materials Science Japan

RB (Rice-Bran) ceramics are new porous carbon materials made from rice bran, which is one of the main industrial wastes of Japan. The rice bran is at first mixed with phenol resin, and then, after forming, carbonized in nitrogen or vacuum atmosphere at higher than 900°C. The purpose of this study is to measure some me…
