Abstract Polyvinylpolysilsesquioxane (PVPS) organic–inorganic hybrid gel films comprising polyethylene and siloxane backbone linkages were prepared through two routes: trimethoxy(vinyl)silane (VTS) was first subjected to radical polymerization of the vinyl groups, followed by acid‐catalyzed hydrolytic polycondensation…

Y. Liang、Petros Sofronis2003-06-09Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering

The mechanics of hydrogen-induced decohesion and subsequent void formation at the interface of an elastic inclusion embedded in a ductile matrix is studied in an effort to understand the micromechanics of hydrogen embrittlement in nickel-base alloys that fail by ductile intergranular fracture initiating at grain bound…

Structure and stability of the modulated phase Sb-II

Ulrich Schwarz、Lev Akselrud、H. Rösner 等 6 位作者2003-06-09Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The crystal structure of Sb-II has been determined using angle-dispersive x-ray diffraction of synchrotron radiation. The crystal structure comprises an interpenetrating assembly of a tetragonal host sublattice with symmetry $I422$ and a tetragonal guest sublattice of symmetry $I422,$ which realize common a axes but d…

Structural Arrest in Dense Star-Polymer Solutions

Giuseppe Foffi、Francesco Sciortino、P. Tartaglia 等 8 位作者2003-06-09Physical Review Letters

The dynamics of star polymers is investigated via extensive molecular and Brownian dynamics simulations for a large range of functionality f and packing fraction eta. The calculated isodiffusivity curves display both minima and maxima as a function of eta and minima as a function of f. Simulation results are compared…

Electronic Structure of Te and As Covered Si(211)

Prasenjit Sen、Inder P. Batra、S. Sivananthan 等 6 位作者2003-06-09arXiv

Electronic and atomic structures of the clean, and As and Te covered Si(211) surface are studied using pseudopotential density functional method. The clean surface is found to have (2 X 1) and rebonded (1 X 1) reconstructions as stable surface structures, but no π-bonded chain reconstruction. Binding energies of As an…

Large positive magnetocaloric effect in a perovskite manganite

R. Mahendiran、B. G. Ueland、P. Schiffer 等 9 位作者2003-06-09arXiv

We investigate the magnetothermodynamic properties of the perovskite manganite Pr0.46Sr0.54MnO3. Our data imply that the paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic transition at TN = 210 K is first order with an abrupt decrease of volume (~ 0.14 % in zero magnetic field) and is accompanied by a sharp anomaly in specific heat.…

Driving forces and boundary conditions in continuum dislocation mechanics

Amit Acharya2003-06-08Proceedings of the Royal Society A Mathematical Physical and Engineering Sciences

As a guide to constitutive specification, driving forces for dislocation velocity and nucleation rates are derived for a field theory of dislocation mechanics and crystal plasticity proposed in Acharya (2001, J. Mech. Phys. Solids 49, 761–785). A condition of closure for the theory in the form of a boundary condition…

New Insights into NO−Carbon and N2O−Carbon Reactions from Quantum Mechanical Calculations

Zhonghua Zhu、Gao Qing Lu2003-06-07Energy & Fuels

Density functional theory calculations were used to investigate the mechanisms of NO−carbon and N 2 O−carbon reactions. It was the first time that the importance of surface nitrogen groups was addressed in the kinetic behaviors of the NO−carbon reaction. It was found that the off-plane nitrogen groups that are adjacen…

Chemical Structure and Local Segmental Dynamics in 1,2-Polybutadiene

C. M. Roland、R. Casalini、P. G. Santangelo 等 6 位作者2003-06-07Macromolecules

The segmental dynamics in 1,2-polybutadiene was studied over a broad range of temperature and pressure using dielectric spectroscopy. The glass transition temperature was found to be strongly dependent on pressure (d T g /d P = 240 K/GPa). Moreover, while no appreciable change in the shape of the relaxation function w…

Synthesis and Characterization of Amorphous Nanostructured HAlO, a Novel Aluminumoxyhydride

Suwen Liu、Ulrike Fooken、Christopher M. Burba 等 5 位作者2003-06-07Chemistry of Materials

A novel material, amorphous nanostructured HAlO, has been synthesized by the reaction of various methylsiloxanes [e.g., (Me 2 HSi) 2 O] with the aluminum hydride H 3 Al·NMe 3 in ether or aromatic solvents under mild conditions. Its high surface area of ca. 250 m 2 /g is due to both its small particle size of approxima…

Luminescent Zn and Pd Tetranaphthaloporphyrins

Vladimir V. Rozhkov、Mazdak Khajehpour、Sergei A. Vinogradov2003-06-07Inorganic Chemistry

Zn and Pd complexes of meso-tetraphenyltetranaphthaloporphyrins (Ph(4)TNP) exhibit strong infrared absorption bands and luminesce in solutions at room temperature. S1 --> S0 fluorescence (lambda(max) = 732 nm, phi = 5.3%) is the predominant emission in the case of ZnPh(4)TNP (1). This emission is in part due to the de…
